Hot New Releases for August and a Book Giveaway!

andrea_williamsonIt’s August, and that means it’s time for back to school and another month of hot new romance releases!  Which ones have you read?  Which ones are you looking forward to?

This month’s topic is HEROINES!  Last month we talked about our all-time favorite and favorite types of heroes, so this month we’re dishing about the ladies.  There are so many types of heroines.  Some are feisty and adventurous, many are solid and dependable.  Some speak their mind and take no bull from anyone, while others have special abilities or magic powers.  Some are society misses or the “girl next door” and many are courtesans or servants.  Some own their own business or run a ranch while others struggle with a 9-5 job.  Some are outright beautiful and some are “plain Jane”.  But where they are all the same is in their strong love for their hero.  Their journeys might be different, but the end result is still the same: true love.  Personally, I’ve always favored a heroine that I could see myself being friends with . . . someone I share a lot of similarities with.  Some of my favorites are Kate from JQ’s The Viscount Who Loved Me, Dawn from Kathryn Smith’s Nightmare Chronicles, Victoria from Colleen Gleason’s Gardella Vampire Chronicles, Sarah from Jacquie D’Alessandro’s Sleepless at Midnight, Caroline from Anne Mallory’s The Bride Price and Chastity from Kristan Higgins’s Just One of the Guys. What is your favorite type of heroine?  Which type of heroine would you like to see more books written about?  Who are some of your favorite heroines and why?  Tell us and one random poster (living within the United States) will win a book!

Until September, happy reading!

Another great month for romance! There are so many good ones coming out now that I can’t keep up!

My very favorite heroine is Jessica Trent from Lord of Scoundrels. She is tough, smart, witty, determined, and passionate. She very calmly shot the hero, who deserved it! She is one of the most memorable heroines in romantic fiction.

I like smart and strong heroines who know how to handle things. Some of my favorite heroines are Jenna from Cindy Gerard’s “Show No Mercy” and Jane from Rachel Gibson’s “See Jane Score.”

I love smart, confident heroines, regardless of their looks. They don’t have to be total kick-*ss chicks, but they do need to have a backbone.

Some of my faves: Alyssa Locke from Brockmann’s Troubleshooters, also Kate from The Viscount Who Loved Me, Kat from Jo Davis’ Trial By Fire, Eve Dallas of course, from the In Death books. Definitely Jessica Trent from Lord of Scoundrels.

My favorite heroine is Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. I just love her spunk, her loyalty to her family – especially her sister, Jane – and the fact that she is not afraid to have an opinion. Or to share it.

I received a google alert that you gave me a mention in your column. I was thrilled. When Lighning Strikes is my third novel. My first was Never Say Never and the second Moments of Clarity. All of the heroines in my novels are African American yet I’ve been credited with the fact that color becomes secondary in my novels. Women have the same desire for a love everlasting while dealing with day to day problems as we try to survive in the the best way we can..

Great list, Andrea! I’ve already picked up my August reads!

Favorite heroines? Oh I have many. Like everyone else, Lady Jessica Trent is one. And Eve Dallas. But I also love Lillian from It Happened One Autumn, and I love, love, love Payton Kendall from Practice Makes Perfect!

Oh, such a great list and I can’t wait to delve into it further. So many books, so little time {sigh}.

As for my favorite heroine, I absolutely love a heroine that is smart, dependable, loyal and the one to turn around a bad boy hero. So my favorite heroine isn’t just one but a compilation of many (as most have already blogged) but here are a few, Sara from LK’s Dreaming of You (one of my favs), Fleur from MB’s The Secret Pearl, Lucy from EH’s Serpent Prince and Maddy from LK’s Flowers From the Storm. Ah, just thinking of these books makes me want to reread them again!

The type of heroine I love are like the ones from the BDB series. Mostly I like Bella the most. Shes strong, and soft on the inside.

    Please count me in.

Great reads coming up! I know I have quite a few of these omn my tbr pile.

As for heroines I like…..I just got done reading Brockmann’s Hot Pursuit and loved Jennilyn. She’s a larger sized heroine, intelligent, and knows what she wants out of life. Can’t wait to see more of her in the next book.

So many wonderful books coming out this month!!!! There are so many that I want read 🙂

I love a heroine who is strong and feisty, but soft enough to tame the man she loves. There are way too many for me to name right now.

There are so many great books out this month and so many great heroines that I couldn’t possibly name them all. I like heroines who are smart, sassy and confident.

Andrea, please exclude me from the contest. I came home from RWA with enough books to last me into 2010!

Hey Andrea – another great list! You’ve done it again! Thank you.

This is a hard question – you know the old song – when you’re not near the one you love , love the one you’re near. So give me a well written heroine and it doesn’t matter if she’s a strong independent intelligent take no prisoners kind ‘o gal OR a shy, reserved, naive just learning about life kind o’ gal – if she’s written well I’m there.

Recently I’ve been very excited about Cheyenne McCray’s heroine Lexi Steele – she is an amazing kick ass heroine. Of course I love Eve Dallas for all the same reasons. I’m also with Jody – Brockmann’s new heroine Jerrilyn in Hot Pursuit, is a character I really embraced. I think I liked her so much because she had so many of the ‘every woman’ quality about her – she rang true. Another great heroine is Win from Kleypas’ Seduce Me at Sunrise. I like her determination which is so wonderfully balanced with her kindness. And yes, I could go on and on; so I’ll stop now.

I guess my favorite heroine would have to be Bella from J.R. Ward’s Lover Awakened. She seemed to have it all, she was smart and sexy, and what I liked about her most was she went for someone who was clearly not on the same level as her in looks or personality, but she could see deeper than most to what Z was really like. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we all had that quality?

I’m very wxcited to read C. Dodd’s new book. I haven’t been to the book store all summer if you can believe it, but she is the aouthor I will be buying first when I finally make it there.

Oh yes, Kleypas’ Lillian Bowman is another favorite, Kati. I’m just getting ready to read the second Julie James book this weekend, I did like the heroine in her first book. Olivia in Jo Goodman’s Price of Desire is another favorite.

A new favorite – Mina in Written on Your Skin by Meredith Duran, plays the ditz using her beauty, but very smart.

I like heroines who have overcome adversity and draw upon their inner strength and triumph over a villian! I like when they start out shy and sheltered and go through a transformation and travel to faraway and exotic countries.
