One of my favorite reads of last year was Erin McCarthy’s Flat Out Sexy. The book is set in the entertaining world of NASCAR, where the women are hot, but the drivers are hotter. McCarthy keeps the fun going with the next in the series, Hard and Fast.

Imogen Wilson has moved to Charlotte, NC to gain a little independence and to continue her graduate studies in sociology. With her entrée into the world of NASCAR through her friend, Tammy, who is married to a driver, Imogen settles on a thesis that tests whether a book about how to capture and marry a driver really works. She decides that bad boy driver Ty McCordle is the perfect candidate to help her test her theories.

Ty is a bad boy. He’s had a long string of girlfriends, mostly distinguishable by their hair color and their decided lack of intelligence, so imagine his delight when he meets “Emma Jean,” a good friend of his buddy, Elec’s wife. Emma Jean is incredibly smart, direct and he’d like nothing more to rip her glasses right off her sexy face and kiss her until the sun comes up. Sure, he knows her name is really Imogen, but he keeps her off balance by teasing her endlessly and trying his best to get a rise out of her. For her part, Imogen is completely attracted to Ty and she’s stupefied by the fact that he seems to return the sentiment. But he’s a great way for her to both learn more about the sport and test the theories for her thesis.  The more she gets to know him, the more fascinated she is. He’s obviously smart, he’s ambitious, and more than that, he’s in pursuit – of her!

Hard and Fast
lives up to its name. It’s a wonderfully entertaining contemporary romance that whisks the reader along as this couple falls pretty much head long into love.  The sexual chemistry between the leads is extremely hot and McCarthy makes the sex varied and inventive and suitably steamy for an erotic romance. Ty is a hero who pushes the completely willing heroine beyond her comfort zone while showing absolute respect for her. Plus, he’s a bit of a dirty talker, a definite plus for me!

My only quibble is that Ty has a secret that he’s unable to tell Imogen. It is the source of tension between them, and I, like Imogen, was mystified as to why he kept it quiet for so long. His motivations for keeping the secret are credibly laid out throughout the book, and I thought the confrontation between Ty and Imogen about the secret was extremely well done, but I felt that the scene where they work to resolve their issues was too rushed.

That being said, Hard and Fast was an absolute winner for me – a contemporary erotic romance with a perfect balance between the erotic and the romance. A definite must read for lovers of sports themed romance, smart heroines and delicious heroes with a taste for the naughty.

Hey Kati, thanks for the review. I too enjoyed Hard and Fast. I was particularly interested in how two such opposite people would find a way to be together. I agree with you – the end – where they resolve their ‘issues’ was too rushed. I thought the most interesting thing was their differences and when they discover what those are I would have liked to have had more scenes where they work through them and figure out how to be together.

Mornin’ Everyone! A morning starting off with the super hot model on the cover of this book is always a good one! Erin certainly has been blessed by the cover gods!

Marisa – I agree, it would have been so much more fun to see the two of them work through the issues they had.

PJ, I can pretty much guarantee you’ll love this book!

I loved this book. Hot, hot, hot. I loved the conversations Ty & Imogen had, and the attraction between them is scorching. And I envied Imogen – Ty is a naughty guy and she gets to reap all the benefits 😉

Another fab review Miss Kati! If I hadn’t already read it, I’d be racing to the bookstore to grab up a copy.
