Have You Ever Fallen for a TV Character? April’s HOTM by Buffie Johnson

nathan1.jpgI have a question to ask you ladies today.   Have you ever fallen in love with a character from a television show?  I tend to on a regular basis. This season my heart belongs to Richard “Rick” Castle from the ABC drama Castle.  Nathan Fillion is the brilliant actor who has brought Rick Castle to life and into my heart. For those of you who have never seen this show (you really need to check it out!), Rick Castle is a famous mystery/crime novelist who is asked by the police to help them catch a murderer who is copying the death scenes from each of his novels. While Nathan Fillion is a good looking man, the thing I love most about the character Rick Castle is his quirky humor and the way his eyes twinkle when he is up to something. The man just brings a smile to my face and really does lift my spirit.

From all the research I did on Nathan Fillion, I have come to the conclusion that this man is a genuinely nice guy. He was born in Edmonton Canada in March 1971, and has appeared in many television shows and movies. Not only does he portray an author on the show Castle, but he is the co-founder of the non-profit organization Kids Need to Read.   This organization was created to help inspire imagination in children and to foster a love a reading for kids by providing books to under funded libraries. A man who loves books . . . someone after our own hearts!

So ladies my question for you this month is . . . good looks aside, have you ever fallen for a television or movie character?   If so, who was it?

Good choice, Buffie! I love Castle! It’s a terrific show and Nathan Fillion is perfect in the role.

It’s after midnight so my brain isn’t firing on all pistons right now. I’ll probably come up with more names in the morning but the one that comes immediately to mind is Tom Selleck as Thomas Magnum from Magnum, PI. I never missed an episode of that show and, as I recall, Magnum starred in more than a few of my dreams back then. ;).

Hey Buffie, I think I was first introduced to Nathan on the show Firefly and I have caught a few episodes of Castle. I love the fact that he is the co founder of Kids Need to Read. Perhaps publishers should send him some YA ARC’s so he can spread the word.

I think the first TV character I fell for was (and yes ladies I’m dating myself) Daniel J. Travanti as Captin Furillo in Hill Street Blues. OH yes, he was it for me. Urban, intellectual, just a bit gritty and flawed.

Hi Buffie! I love, love, love Nathan Fillion, and can’t stomach Castle. I know, I know, I’m so sorry. I can’t take all the puns on the show. I watched two episodes and decided it wasn’t for me. But Mal Reynolds on Firefly? OMG. Delicious.

Fallen for a TV character? Oh yeah. I am currently COMPLETELY in love with Tim Riggins on Friday Night Lights. He’s played by Taylor Kitsch (I know I keep mentioning him, but he’s delicious!). He’s this total bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, and he’s SO in love with his girlfriend, and he does every thing he possibly can to support her and make her happy. He’s this total reformed bad boy, and it just makes my heart go pitty-pat. Plus, well, he’s just not hard to look at. Plus, he’s co-starring in Wolverine with the delicious Hugh Jackman, so I’m afraid my Taylor Kitsch secret is about to get out and there will be many, many people who love him! Um, but he’s MINE MINE ALL MINE! 😈

I don’t watch Castle because it’s a proceedural like Law & Order – I just don’t like that type of drama. I’m a continuing story line type of gal. Having said that I remember being gaga over Jimmy Smits in LA Law.

For me, it was love at first sight with Jim Halpert from The Office. He has it all: good looks, sense of humor, charming, and a job! I don’t know why, but I imagine that John Krasinski is very similar to Jim in real life. Ohh, I wish he were real! Si far, not too many people are aware of his star qualities, but I did join a facebook group called “In Love With Jim Halpert, For Those Who Have a Healthy Obsession with John Krasinski.”

Kati, did you see the episode of Firefly where they show Mal’s (very fine) butt?! My oh my, sci-fi never looked so good! I like Nathan Fillion on Buffy too. He played a very creepy, yet handsome character.

Excellent choice, Buffie! I adore Nathan Fillion and CASTLE is one of my new favorite shows. He has a definite twinkle in his eye and a devilish grin!

I’ve always liked Eric Dane aka McSteamy on GREY’S ANATOMY. He’s definitely a bad boy, but I can’t help but like him.

As far as falling for a character in a book, it’s Roarke all the way! Love that man!

Sorry I’ve been absent all week, but we were on vacay in FL with the kids for spring break, so I just didn’t get online. Missed y’all!

I fall for any character Sam Elliott is playing. I don’t care if he is a good guy or bad. I just want his voice saying my name only. LOL Have a great day.

Such a great choice! I adore Nathan! Loved him on Firefly and Dr. Horrible. As for a character I drool over that would be Karl “Helo” Agathon from BSG played by Tahmoh Penikett. You could bounce a quarter off his abs.

The nearest I ever came to falling for a TV guy was a singer, not an actor. His name is John Davidson and he is terribly good looking and with the added enticement of his voice, I swooned.

Nice post Buffie 🙂 Castle hasn’t reached here yet, but I did like Nathan Fillion in Firefly 🙂 He’s very versatile.

Hmmm, I haven’t had a crush on anyone in ages…although I did quite like Lee Adama (from Season 1 & 2) in BSG!

well the secret is out for this gal… I adore and am completely obsessed w/Taylor Kitsch as well. Love FNL, and and love him. His character is so good in the show, he really reminds me of so many heroes from romance novels. [He just needs a few years ripening, and to become a Dillon sheriff or something and he’d be perfect for a starring role in a good contemp! ; ) ] It will be sad when everyone else discovers him…

I am enjoying Castle very much. The entire cast is excellent. Nick Also, another TV show new this season with a loveable main character is Cupid.

However, my TV heart will always belong to two amazing characters: Methos from Highlander the Series (played by Peter Wingfiled) and Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (played by James Marsters).

The ultimate hero has to be Aragorn from Lord of the Rings films. He was amazing. *sigh*

Sorry for posting so late ladies — I was out of town all weekend long with no computer access. I’m glad you all like my choice for this month’s hottie. I just thought it was a perfect fit.

Oh YUM!!!! I’m all over Nathan Fillion!! Julie Leto got me hooked on Castle, then I remembered someone -I think Trish Milburn -talking about him in Firefly and I checked that out. WHATS up with only one season?!?! that is so wrong. GREAT actor, what a gorgeous, funny guy. Totally crushing hard on him.

Buffie, what a great hottie. I can tell just looking at him that I’ll fall for the twinkle in his eyes. Love guys with smiley eyes. I’ve heard so much about Castle. Hope it comes on Aussie TV!

I must say I had a major crush on John Thornton in the BBC adaptation of North and South (the lovely Richard Armitage). He was a rough diamond but his heart was in the right place and he loved the heroine for all he was worth. He was a man of principle above all other things and he was even willing to compromise his principles to save her. That’s what I like to see in a hero 😉

I like Nathan! Loved him in Firefly and I love the new show Castle. He also played a wicked nemesis to Buffy in several episoded of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Josh Whedon is behind the Buffy and the Firefly series. (And the new Doll House series- where one of the stars from Buffy and one from Firefly are main characters)

Tina, I’m happy to hear that you like Nathan too! I can’t wait for the new season of Castle to start up. It is such a great show.

    Thanks for stopping by!

I love watching Nathan Fillion. I used to watch him years ago when he was one of the 7 or 8 Joey Buchanans on One Life to Live. I believe he was playing him when Joey had the affair with Dorian [aka his mother’s most bitter rival]. The humor and chemistry between them worked so well I almost forgot the ick factor that if Victor Lord wasn’t dead, that would be his step grandma…

Then came Firefly. I didn’t watch every episode but I loved the ones I did see. And now Castle…I love that show. My best friend even sent me the Facebook flair where he says :oooh bondage…my safe word is apples.”

A sense of humor is so sexy to me and he has it in spades.

Firefly is one of the TV Series that was created by Joss Whedon. I love Firefly so much but it does not have Season 2.–`
