marisa_1.jpgWelcome to Duke of Slut Week – the bad boys of romance are in the spotlight all week long.

On the page bad boys are men who can save the country, go behind enemy lines, fight like ninja warriors, raise themselves from the most abject poverty and dire circumstance, dress with attitude, have the intelligence of a scholar, speak with dry wit and a dash of brooding yet charming repartee, they are  the envy of most males and the object of desire of every  female.  Oh yeah, some can even cook. Almost all are hard assed and dangerous, except when it comes to their heroine. When it comes to the women they love, well they’re more like an M&M candy – hard on the outside, melt in your mouth sweet on the inside.

There are plenty of bad boys on the pages of romance, but I’m not sure if there are any roaming the streets where you live.  Maybe I’m wrong and, perhaps you’ve dated one or even married one. If you have – please speak up, I love living vicariously.  Personally, I don’t think I’d go out with a bad boy.  You heard me right; I like my bad boys to continue to reside on the pages of my books.  Why, you might ask. Two words. High. Maintenance.  Am I right?  More often than not you’ve got to coax, cajole and other wise stomp up and down to get a bad boy to communicate. Of course when he does, the heavens open and his words make your heart expand and your breathing becomes a bit shallow. Secondly, a bad boy’s first reaction is, let’s beat it up, then talk about it. Third, well, they’re  typically workaholics, traveling to far off places saving the world.   If they are a duke, viscount or marquees, well they’re usually spying for her majesty’s service or off to a month long house party.

Yet,  we all love a bad boy  because when  he finally falls in love, he’ll move mountains for his lady love. He’ll love his woman until the day he dies. You can’t beat that with a stick. And although they may be high maintenance they are big, strong, more often than not handsome, take charge, see it through, die trying, give it all they got kind of guys. And they always, ALWAYS, find themselves when they find the woman they love.  Who wouldn’t want that?  Especially if they are written by authors like Lisa Kleypas, Suzanne Brockmann, Nora Roberts, Suzanne Enoch, Teresa Medieros, Christina Dodd and Eloisa James. And so this week we celebrate all the bad boys of romance who make our heart beat a bit faster and who make our breath hitch just a bit.

Starting today the reviewers of RNTV will bring  you bad boys that have a special place in their hearts – 2 blogs every day – 2 bad boys every day.  My question for you this morning is, do bad boys only belong on the pages of books?

    High maintenance indeed!

I think I’d like me a romance novel style bad boy in real life – of course somewhere an author would have to scripting it out for us. I’d really hate to end up on the broken heart end of the equation. A real bad boy? Hm… I think I’d have to meet him first before deciding lol

I say – leave them on the page. I have the patience for them to ‘redeem’ themselves when I’m reading – but in real life – I just can’t wait for them to get a grip and come to their senses.

I prefer my bad boys on the page, too! But oh, how I love ’em! In real life, I think I’d be tempted to smack one in the head to make him see reason.

Yeah – Gannon – I think some smacking would be in order.

I’m so excited about this week!!!

I think I prefer my bad boys on the page also! Of course, looking back on when I first met my husband . . . he was a bad boy. At least for a 16 year old goodie like me 🙂 You wouldn’t know it if you met him today though!

See – now that’s what I’m talking about Buffie – the heroine who can reign that bad boy in. After all, bad boys wouldn’t be bad boys if they didn’t have that incredible woman to show them how to really be a man.

I liked my bad boys on the page and on the big screen.

I think it’s in the genetic make-up of a women to be attracted to something that needs fixed, that being said, as mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, we are just to busy to put the effort into the fix. I think I’ll leave it up to the books.

I *heart* you Maria! That has to be the best analogy ever!

I don’t think I’ve ever met a bad boy. Part of me would like to…but part of me would probably want to run and hide as I’m guessing they would be a ‘little’ overwhelming 😉
