Tempt the Devil Release Day Celebration
  • Author:
  • Published: Dec 30th, 2008

Campbell_Devilhome About two years ago Maria and Anna_headI had the pleasure of meeting author Anna Campbell at the RWA National  Convention. It was actually Kim Castillo who brought her to my attention. She asked me if I had read Claiming the Courtesan – and if not -I should run and get it. So, of course I did. I was hooked. Who was this new author? And was she going to be in Dallas?  Well you know the rest. I did get to meet Anna and I did do an interview with her. It was one of the most enjoyable and fun interviews I’ve ever done.  Since then Anna has become one of my favorite authors. Her writing transforms and transcends.

Over the past two years Maria and I have convinced Anna to be a regular reviewer on RNTV and generally ask her for all sorts of fMcdonalds-friesavors. She’s become a good friend and while she lives in Australia the emails fly back and forth at a pretty quick rate. If she lived in the New York area I’d have her over for dinner several times a month. Oh, no wait, she’d have to go to Maria’s for dinner – I don’t cook.

Well today is the long awaited release day of Anna’s third book Tempt the Devil. So we’re having a Tempt the Devil Release Day Celebration.  My review of the book will be up later today, and for those of you who can’t wait to read it, I’ll give you a hint, it has become one of my top picks for 2009.

We have two copies of Tempt the Devil to give away today! So all you have to do is tell us  — what tempts you?

Well, the thing that tempts me the most as far as food goes is…chocolate covered strawberries. I mean, to me it’s the perfect combination of the sweet chocolate hardened over a nice, juicy red strawberry. When you take that first bite and the chocolate starts to melt…Mmmmm almost makes me drool just thinking about it.

My copy of Tempt the Devil is already being shipped to my house. But I guess you can’t have enough copies…. Anyway, I’m tempted by all sorts of things. Presents (I always want to either peek at them or steal them, lol), really expensive shoes, driving too fast, playing hookey so I can spend the day reading instead of working, a half-empty (or should I say full?) bottle of wine; you name it. But I resist! –Most of the time. 😉

Hi, Maria and Marisa. Anna, as well as being a wonderful writer, is a lively dinner guest, I can tell you that!

Chocolate is my biggest temptation. It’s always so shocking to me when people say they don’t like the stuff.

Hi everyone! Just slipping off my glamorous high heels and sneaking over to RNTV to wave hello! Aren’t the Ms just gorgeous hosting this bash for me! There’s another party going on at the Romance Bandits too – much rowdier than this elegant soiree!

Maria and Marisa, you already know I think you’re two of the nicest people in Romancelandia and I’d walk over hot coals for you (especially if there was a home cooked dinner on offer at the end of the journey!). Thank you for that gorgeous introduction – seriously I love it here! I think it’s such a wonderfully warm and positive place to be and you have great regular visitors!

Michelle, there’s something genetically wrong with me but I HATE strawberries! So you can have all mine! Hmm, or perhaps I’ll just lick off the chocolate and throw away the strawberry! That sounds like a much better plan!

Heidenkind, I think I’d LOVE to spend a day with you! Especially the wine and the presents! I love presents! Hey, cool that TTD is already on its way to you! I hope you enjoy it!

Hi Dani! I think we’ve just been clinking champagne glasses over in the lair! You do get around, my friend. And that white dress looks fabulous on you, darling!

Cyclops, once I’ve had my day with Heidenkind, can I come over and stay with you on the island? Sounds like just my type of place! Thanks for the congrats! It’s an exciting day in Campbellandia!

Vanessa, when have you ever met ANYONE who doesn’t like chocolate? I don’t believe it! I just wish I could eat as much chocolate as you do and have your figure! I still swear there’s a really spotty picture up in the attic, Dorian…uh, Vanessa! Thanks for coming by! Vanessa features in the dedication for TTD because she’s such a good friend!

Helen, would you manage to concentrate on a good book if Hugh was there? Methinks not! Thanks for those lovely kind words! Hope you really enjoy TTD!!!! Hmm, you’re looking very glam too. Clearly you’re going back to the Bandits ball too!

OK, slipping off now! See you all tomorrow!!!!

Ah, so good to see everyone here! Anna I’m with you, I’m not a strawberry lover – long story but I was harvesting a field of strawberries once and I was attacked by hundreds of bees – so I don’t care much for strawberries anymore. Give me the chocolate and I’m happy. But what does tempt me are long hot baths, sleeping late, and shoes. I love shoes, can’t have enough of them. No matter what dress size I am – my shoes will always fit. I’m off to the bandits ball.

Congratulations, Anna! Can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of Tempt the Devil! 🙂

It’s been a rowdy night at Anna’s masked ball but I’ve been having the time of my life. Those yummy waiters that you hired from Hunks R Us have been oh so attentive. (wink) I cannot believe I’m saying this but I believe I need a wee break. Therefore, I’ll have to go with chocolate as my biggest temptation for the moment. I managed to not give away all of the chocolates I made for Christmas. (What was I thinking?!?) Right now, there are dark chocolate bon bons filled with Kahlua creme, milk chocolate turtles filled with caramel and toasted pecans and white chocolate bark with peppermint crunch calling my name. But the most tempting ones over there in corner sweetly singing their siren song are the peanut butter filled Ritz bits dipped in peppermint flavored milk chocolate. Mmmmm. Bet you can’t eat just one. I know I can’t! 🙂

Congrats on the new release, Anna, and the success that is bound to come with it! You know we love you bunches!!!!

    Several things tempt me.

a book I have been longing to read
    a quiet house
those two pieces of cheesecake still in the refrigerator
the internet — I spend waaayyyyy too much time there 🙂
my boys when the first wake up — both of them are in such cuddly moods when they first wake up
a day of sunshine — it makes me want to ditch work and go on an adventure

Hi, Anna! As always, your parties are the best! 🙂 Between you and the M’s, we are always treated royally: the men, the food, the drink, the men…..

What tempts me? Where do I start? Chocolate leads the list for sure. Even after Christmas, I still want to indulge. I decided I have until January 2nd–that’s when the calories will actually count. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Other temptations: romance novels (or any book for that matter), purses, shoes, a day in my PJ’s with complete quiet so I can read to my heart’s content, a lovely bottle of wine, a handsome man with a Scottish brogue, and my husband’s smile! And of course, Hugh Jackman!!

Anna, I cannot wait to read Tempt the Devil. And if you ever make it to my “neck of the woods” (as they say here in the South), I’ll cook you something fabulous!

Gannon, I vote that we kidnap Anna from RWA next summer and bring her home with us for a spell. She deserves to experience the Blue Ridge and Smokies at least once, don’t you think? 🙂 I’ll make the lasagne and the homemade garlic bread.

I can honestly say that Anna is one of my favorite people in Romance, and no one deserves the success and recognition her work is getting more. Congrats on TtD, Anna! I can’t wait to get my hands on it. The M’s shamelessly gloated about having the ARC and reading it long before today came. I’m headed to Borders today with my handy-dandy gift card to shop, shop, shop! And TtD will be among the first books I read.

What tempts me? Chocolate eclairs, hot menz, reading a really terrific romance, a chick flick movie, tickets to the Redskins game. LOL!

Yay Anna! You are a delight, and I’m so thrilled about your 3rd book. Definitely one of my most anticipated reads this year. I wonder, can you top my love of Matthew & Grace?

Temptations? Goodness, they’re all around. French Vanilla cappuccino, cute mechanics, Fannie May chocolate. Credit cards. I’m very tempted to use mine to splurge on a decadent beach vacation right about now. And yeah, definitely the internet.

Here’s hoping for a sparkling and pleasurable 2009, to Anna, and to each of us 😉

I have been looking forward to this book since her previous two books were great. Books are one of my biggest temptations. When I’m shopping I always find my way to whatever books are on sale, when I’m cleaning I am always tempted to take just a few minutes to read a chapter which then becomes two and sometimes more.

What tempts me? Parties in the Romance Bandits Lair ! Great one going on right now!

Good looking men. I’ve never met a great butt I didn’t want to grope! Stop flinching Hugh Jackman!

Chocolate, especially Cadbury’s! Anna can vouch for this!

    Romance novels!!

Wow, I can’t wait for the book. I read the beginning at Love Gives Back and am looking forward to curling up with the real thing!

I gotta say that most of the posts have already listed many of my temptations, but really, who doesn’t love a man in a uniform? You could take an overweight, unattractive man and dress him up in a pressed uniform and he’d be pretty good.

The biggest temptation of all, a heartstoppingly ruggish man in uniform that talks with an Australian/Scottish/Irish accent. Sorry, but any of those accents gets me!

Maria, thank you so much! I can’t tell you what the enthusiasm you and Marisa have shown for TTD has meant to me! Hey, I do a mean lasagne. Or I used to – my gourmet cooking days seem to be behind me. Roasting a chook and throwing together a salad seems to be my limits these days. Too many other things to do! Although I do still go on baking binges! Thank you so much for hosting this party here today! I’m feeling quite the belle of the ball!!!!

Hey, Marisa, at last, somebody else who doesn’t like strawberries! And would you believe I grew up in Australia’s strawberry-growing capital. We even had a strawberry festival! Bleuch! Eeek to the bees! I think that would turn me off strawberries even if I did like them to begin with! Oh, long hot baths and lolling around in bed (hmm, might just leave that one as is!). Great stuff! Sadly, these days, my feet don’t cope with glamour shoes. How I wish they did! You and Tawny and Denise and Christine Wells will have to get together. Christine had the most darling pair of kittenish shoes on at the awards dinner in SF! You would have loved them!

Oh, Carol, I don’t know about a drop-dead gorgeous Highlander not sporting any undies, but I nearly fainted dead away at the gorgeous picture that painted! And I’ve got a party to attend! TWO parties to attend! Thanks for popping by. Hey, your glass is empty, my friend! Sven, emerge from that lair and refresh Carol’s glass! What? You’re practising your brogue? Nah, doesn’t work, my friend. You still sound like a Muppet!

Maria, if we find any spare Highlanders that nobody wants (yeah, that’s likely), we will most definitely send them over. But here’s Horace the cabana boy to keep you amused in the meantime. We call him Horace the Hottie in the lair! You wouldn’t believe what he can do with a deck chair!

PJ, it’s much more civilized over here, isn’t it? The chamber orchestra. The discreet conversation. The Highlanders wearing nothing under their skirts… Ahem! Oh, man, forget the Highlander! I want some of them chocolates!!!!!

Laura, great answer! Thanks for joining the fun!

Hey, Buffie! What great temptations! I can just picture the kids being all cuddly and snuggly in the mornings. Thanks for the congrats! The launch is a hoot! Green tea latte? Now that sounds great! Sort of like an anti-oxidant chai!

Ooh, Gannon, didn’t anyone ever warn you that you shouldn’t offer an Aussie free food? We’re likely to move in forever! It’s like feeding a stray cat 😉 My fridge is full of chocolate Christmas booty (sadly, Hugh’s booty is absent from my house – it seems to be boogying over at the Bandits!). I’m starting a new book tomorrow and I’m keeping it as inspiration. I hope you’re impressed at my strength of character!

Hey, PJ! Please refer the comment above about stray cats! You’ve always got to read the small print when you invite an Aussie around. I’d LOVE to see the Smokies and the Blue Ridge mountains. I’m hoping I can see them when the Nashville conference is on – are they close? Hey, I’m always in the mood for a kidnap! Actually one of the things that makes me laugh at TTD is that there is NO kidnap. I wonder if people will be disappointed 😉

Kati, thanks so much! Right back at you! I remember when I first met you on the Bellas blog and we talked about books we loved so much – a lot of overlaps on the list! A gift card? Now, that’s a PRESENT!!! Hope you find TTD fairly easily. I’ve had a few reports of it being around the place so fingers crossed.

Stacy, lovely to see you! This is why I love RNTV! The loveliest people hang out here! Ooh, I wonder how TTD will compared to Untouched for you. It’s a very different story with a very different hero (the one out in November that I don’t have an official title for yet features a hero a little in the Matthew mold!). Love your list of temptations!

Hi Margay! And congratulations on your new release too! Here, have a margarita. Or perhaps a margayrita?

Maered, isn’t it interesting how often food pops up as a temptation? The contest on my website that closes at the end of Dec asked people what tempts them. I was expecting myriads of Gerard Butlers and Hugh Jackmans and co. What I got from nearly everyone who entered was chocolate!

Maureen, that sticking to one chapter thing gets really tough, doesn’t it? I actually read a lot of nonfiction when I’m working on a book just because I know how weak I am if I’ve got a great story to finish. Thanks so much for saying how much you enjoyed the first two books!

Anna, a four hour drive from Nashville will put you near Gatlinburg, Tennessee and the northern entrance to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. At the other end of the park is Cherokee, North Carolina and the southern end of the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway. Another hour or so east and you’ll be in Asheville, home of the gorgeous Biltmore House and just 25 miles from Chimney Rock Park where The Last of the Mohicans was filmed and Lake Lure where much of Dirty Dancing was filmed. You’ll also only be 1 1/2 hours northeast of me and about 1 1/2 hours south of Gannon!

HUGE congratulations on your new release, Anna!! The reviews have been amazing.

What tempts me? Well, I was going to say chocolate, but since so many have already said that, I’ll be a little more specific. I like chocolate (preferably Lindt, Toblerone or Cadburys) that’s soft – either from a hot day (and we’re having a very hot one here today!) or from holding it in my fingers. Not melted, just… soft and gooey so it coats my tongue and all my taste buds. Happy sigh.

Hi Eva! Didn’t I just see you swinging from a chandelier? Thanks for the congrats! You can never have too many of those, can you? Love your list of temptations (might even share a few!). Happy New Year!

Hey, Miss Louisa! La Campbell greets La Cornell! Thank you so much for that lovely wrap. You’re better than a block of Cadbury’s fruit and nut! Ha! As if you could even get near Hugh at the Bandits Bash! He’s been seriously surrounded with feminine pulchritude from the moment he set foot in the place. I tried to tunnel my way to him by going underground but even that didn’t work. All I ended up with was a rather cranky rooster standing on my head!

PJ, clearly you are a butt woman! I must say I’m partial to shoulders!

Hey, Kelly, you’ll have to come over for a visit. Nearly everyone here has an Aussie accent – even if, sadly, not every Aussie man looks like Hugh or Eric B! Hope you enjoy TTD! Love Gives Back was a great idea, wasn’t it? Although I find those things frustrating! I want the rest of the book NOW!

Hey, Pat, that’s a fab list of temptations (even excluding the mention of my books, mwah to you!). Isn’t it lovely that RNTV is having a party for me too? I’m feeling rather overwhelmed by it all! Think I need a drink…

Hey, Ely, mega cool about the book just arriving! I’m so thrilled to think it’s actually in people’s hands at last!

Karin, I love mint things too, especially combined with dark chocolate. A really lovely treat here in Oz is Red Tulip After Dinner Mints. These wafers of mint with dark chocolate coating. Seriously yum! Thanks for the congrats!

Donna, good luck for the contest! Thanks for dropping by!

Ooh, PJ and Gannon, getting together when the Nashville conference rolls around is sounding like a possibility. I usually check in a few days early so I can do some sightseeing! The Biltmore House has always fascinated me – hey, conspicuous consumption, what’s not to like? And I adore The Last of the Mohicans! At one stage there, every hero I wrote looked like DDL as he dashed through the forest (I will find you!). And Dirty Dancing is one of my favorite films EVAH!!! (Nobody puts Baby in the corner!) Hmm, I seem to have a soft spot for men making emphatic statements!

Joanie T!!! Thank you for those lovely words. I had such a strong conception of both those characters as I wrote it, I’m so happy that you’re getting involved in the story even as we speak. Hope the exfoliation was fun!

Kim, lovely to see you? Isn’t this a wonderful party? Hey, so glad I tempt you. Mind you, knowing you, tempting you to mischief is as easy as falling off a log!

Rachel, lovely to see you again! That gold dress still looks lovely on you, m’dear! Have we worked out the identity of your secret date yet? Hasn’t the weather been hot? Given my druthers, I’d sit in the pool all day and never come out!

Congrats on the new release and the great review I just saw posted here, Anna!

I’m tempted by sweets all the time, just can’t resist. Of course, anything chocolate, right now it’s the tin of fudge my mother made for Christmas, trying not to polish it all off in one night, lol, I keep reaching in for another piece. Then there are those delicous cream puffs, not with whipped cream but the Italian custard from my favorite Italian pastry shop in town, I try to avoid driving by so I won’t be tempted to stop in every day.

Temptations, I have them. Food temptations it would be chocolate. Brownies, soft and warm from the oven. Dove chocolate bars are one of my favorites. Or cold Reese’s cups.

Other temptations would be books. Sometimes it’s the cover, the back cover blurb or a recommend by a friend. No matter how many books I have on my TBR pile I always want more. lol

Cheryl, you’re right! I AM excited! Whoo-hoo! Actually the time to start worrying is when you can’t FIND your husband under the TBR pile. Until then, I think you’re fine!

Ooh, Pam, Italian custard! Yum, yum, yum! I wish I had cravings for lentils! Thanks for the congrats!

Hey, Gannon, I’m gathering you’ve seen the part of the blog where we were taking your name in vain. Seriously, it’s silly to get so close and not do something special! I’m already looking forward to Washington! Now I’ve got Nashville after that! Wow! And if we ask nicely, PJ might just bring us some caramel and nut turtles. I can ask nicely. Can you?

Leslie, I’m addicted to books too. I can never buy just one! Hey, thank goodness for people like us, huh? Thanks for the congrats! I’ve had the most fantastic day – couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate my release date!
