    Before And After By Maria

Okay – let’s talk turkey, let’s get real, and let’s speak the truth.  I was reading a magazine today and happened upon a headline that stated in big bold letters "Haircuts That Take 10 Years Off Your Life".  Well any headline, advertisement or product that claims to turn back the hands of time has got my attention.  So, being the gullible "wanting to look ever younger consumer" that I am, I flipped through the article – and in fact the before and after pictures were amazing.  You’ve seen it all before, in magazines and on television shows.  The after is always a ‘wow’ experience.

Here’s my think on the whole before/after scenario.  The woman who participate in them don’t just get a haircut, no, they get an entire make-over.  Sorry, no fair.  If you look closely the haircuts they receive cost more than the vacation I took 3 years ago, and if you really look at those pictures in the magazines or rewind the TV show – you’ll see that they had professional make-up artists do their make-up, some really excellent lighting, new clothes, and possibly some teeth whitening.

Here’s the deal.  Whether they’re selling me a new cream that promises to remove the cracks and crevices on my face, or selling me a type of pantyhose with the forever promise that I will never have to do another sit-up in my life – It all comes down to me.  The inside of me.  In the end – it’s attitude that counts.  It’s how I feel and what I project. New haircuts are nice, wrinkle cream will help – but in the end, it’s always, and only me.

What are your thoughts on make-overs?

Oh Maria, I totally agree with you. Those before/after people always have a make over. I think it might be cool to do that some time, but I have a feeling the pros would point out all of my flaws while they try their best to make me beautiful.

The truth is more about eating right, sleeping enough, exercising and drinking plenty of water.

Oh and good genes go a long way.

Makeovers, haircuts and clothes help but Maria is right attitude goes a long way toward attractiveness or unattractiveness.

Buffie: Those two hosts of “What Not to Wear” are so mean to the women they’re making over. Made me cringe in both the episodes I saw.

Sheila: I agree with you. What you put inside will help far more than what you put outside.

Maria: In our instant-gratification world, the makeover makes a sudden positive change without us having to do anything, whereas in the internal changes, we have to eat what we don’t like and exercise (bleh!).

Finally, if I were to go about finding fault with everything, it wouldn’t matter how beautiful I look inside out, to me, I’m always going to be a frump. My motto that I try to live up to: An attitude of gratitude every minute of every day.

Sleep? Did someone say sleep? I never, ever get enough of that. I think it has something to do with books and the internet!
