Andrea’s Must Reads

andrea_williamsonA new month is upon us and September looks to be yet another great month for books! Which ones have you read? Which of those do you recommend? Which ones are you dying to read?

This month’s topic is SECONDARY CHARACTERS! We all know that the hero and heroine are the stars and main focus of the books we read. But sometimes a secondary character or two can steal our hearts as well. If done well, they enhance the romance and/or the story as a whole. Many eventually get their own story and some do not (though we wish they would). And some find their HEA as a secondary romance. Colin Bridgerton is one of my favorite secondary characters. We read about him and his wry humor in three books before…

andrea_williamsonIt’s August, and that means it’s time for back to school and another month of hot new romance releases!  Which ones have you read?  Which ones are you looking forward to?

This month’s topic is HEROINES!  Last month we talked about our all-time favorite and favorite types of heroes, so this month we’re dishing about the ladies.  There are so many types of heroines.  Some are feisty and adventurous, many are solid and dependable.  Some speak their mind and take no bull from anyone, while others have special abilities or magic powers.  Some are society misses or the “girl next door” and many are courtesans or servants.  Some own their own business or run a ranch while others struggle with a 9-5 job.  Some are outright beautiful and some are “plain…

andrea_williamsonI don’t know about you, but the higher the temperature rises, the more often I find myself at the pool.  During the hot summer, it can be difficult to keep my kids entertained, so we’re lucky enough to have one within walking distance of our house.  And speaking of hot…

This month’s topic is HEROES!  Boy, do we love our heroes.  We love them cynical, tortured, stuffy, protective, romantic, arrogant or reserved.  Some of our favorite heroes exhibit one or a few of those qualities and some exhibit all of the above.  A few of my favorite heroes are Julia Quinn’s Anthony Bridgerton, Suzanne Enoch’s St. Aubyn (Saint) and Bram Johns, Kathryn Smith’s Devlin Ryland, Colleen Gleason’s Max Pesaro, Lisa Kleypas’s Jack Devlin and Marcus, Lord Westcliff and Jacquie D’Alessandro’s Logan…

Summer’s here!  As I’m typing up this blog, my kids are enjoying their last day of school, my brother is driving out to visit and my sister is preparing for her high school graduation.  Needless to say, I have been and will continue to stay busy for the next few weeks.  At times like this, reading a good book helps me to wind down and relax.

This month’s topic is quick and easy: Paperback vs. Hardcover books.  Which do you prefer?  When it comes to price, I prefer paperbacks, for obvious reasons.  And since most books are published that way, I’m a happy camper.  Over the years, I have bought some of my favorite books by favorite authors in hardcover just because I want to have a “nice” copy.  Plus, they’ll…

I don’t know about you, but I am thrilled that the weather is finally starting to warm up!  Though I am scratching my head wondering where the cool weather went.  It was here for like a week and then poof!  I went straight from running the heat to running the air conditioning with not much time to just open the windows and enjoy the breeze.  Ah, well.

This month’s topic is: BOOK TLC.  As I was dusting my lovely books the other day (yes, I dust them regularly), I came up with this topic because I know how anal I am when it comes to the tender loving care of my books and was curious if there were others who share my sick obsession–er, I mean, the same practice.  Seriously, if…

andrea_head.jpgEaster is here!  I just love Easter.  Besides the obvious religious reason, I love to see my kids dressed up in their Easter finery while they hunt for Easter eggs filled with candy and money.  Plus, it’s one of the three guaranteed days off for my husband.   How do you celebrate Easter?

This moth’s topic is PLOTS/THEMES.  I know that everyone has their favorites and their not-so-favorites — what is a favorite to one person, isn’t to others.  Some plots/themes include: reunited lovers, friends to lovers, unrequited love, marriage of convenience, Cinderella, love triangle, forbidden love, bad boy and the innocent miss, secret baby, captor/captive, beauty and the beast, secret identity, adversaries to lovers.  Some of my favorites are: friends to lovers, adversaries to lovers, bad boy and the innocent miss,…
