Dear Reader:

Short Review: Overall, Indiscreet was a book I enjoyed; however, I found the plot a bit too simplistic. The writing is extremely well done and the characters are worth the read. If you’re new to Carolyn Jewel’s books and love historical romance, I think you’ve found yourself a new author. For those of you who loved Ms. Jewel’s first book Scandal, I’d be curious to know what you think about this one.

Long Review: A hero who is unattractive?  Huh, who’d a thunk it, but in Carolyn Jewel’s latest release Indiscreet, that’s just what we have. Now I must admit that I had a hard time picturing him at first.  I mean so many …

Dear Reader:

Short Review: Two words: Lisa. Kelypas. Need I say more?  I don’t think so. But if you insist, read the Long Review.

Long Review: I find it particularly hard to write reviews of books by my favorite authors. It’s all so tedious when all I can think of is superlatives. But since I’ve read the book, and perhaps you haven’t I’ll go on.  For those of you who are Lisa Kleypas fans, you’ve most likely already read this book, or your about to buy the book. So this review is directed to readers who have not yet read a Lisa Kleypas book, which can only mean …

Covet_JRWARDCovet by J.R. Ward Book #1 in the Fallen Angels Series Reviewed by Marisa O’Neill Publisher: Penguin 5 Stars Dear Reader, Short Review: I loved this book, buy it. You need more info? Alright. For those of you who are J.R. Ward fans, hold on to your hat, there’s so much more to love. For those of you have questioned where Ms. Ward is going, not as an author, but specifically as a romance author, please read on, I think all your questions will be answered. For those of you who don’t give a rat’s ass about labels and just enjoy an exceptionally well written book, that literally transports you to an alternate reality and keeps you there for hours on end, this one’s for you. Long Review: There’s a new paranormal series in town and it’s called Fallen Angles. Yes, J.R. Ward has written a powerful and exciting new series with a new cast of characters, a new mythology, and a new reason to keep reading her books. Although the series takes place in Caldwell New York (the same location as her bestselling series The Black Dagger Brotherhood) and even though there are some cross over characters, this series has a brand new mythology. With that I mean, vampires, Lessers, and the Brotherhood may live in Caldwell NY, but they live on the other side of town. It’s a fresh start with perhaps some familiar places and faces BUT with a brand new perspective and a brand new raison d'être. With her trademark ability to create vivid images, snappy dialogue, compelling story lines, inventive and INTERESTING characters, Ms. Ward has given readers a reason to rush out and buy Covet. In the dead of night, inn owner Mariah Eller is called to the inn to defuse a presumably bad situation involving a group of rowdy, drunken men.  Unbeknownst to her, one of the unruly men is none other than the future king, the Prince of Wales.  Her plan to calm them down involves music (to soothe the savage beasts) and plenty of rum (to knock them out).  One man in their group wasn’t raucous – Jack St. Lawrence sat off to the side, quietly watching with his golden eyes.  After the other men either passed out or went to bed, Jack asks Mariah to help him take the prince up to his room.  While there, they …

What are you reading?

simon_says_mommy

I’ve recently finished Kay Stockham’s Simon Says Mommy. I enjoy Kay’s books because she ALWAYS tackles the difficult subjects. Weight, adoption, spousal abuse, etc. and somehow manages to turn them into stories you want to keep reading, With Kay, you not only get your happy ending, but a view on a topic that’s not always prevalent in romance.

Chole Neill’s second book in the Chicagoland Vampires series, Friday Night Bites will be released at the end of the month. I loved the first book, Some Girls Bite, but this one started a little slow for me. However, after chapter two, I couldn’t put it down. Chole has a way of developing her characters and their world that has you the reader totally invested. She …
