Stephanie - I love Fire King as well

I've already read J.R. Ward's Covet. Gotta say, for my money, one of the year's best. It has so many dimensions, and an ending that surprised me. I think you have something to look forward to. After I read the book, it was like peeling the layers of an onion, more and more came to mind about how the book was put together and how the series could potentially unfold.

Hey Maria!
hmmm, I'm reading Waking Nightmare by Kylie Brant which is creepy and good all at once, and I just finished The Fire King by Marjorie Liu and absolutely loved it, her Dirk & Steel series rocks. The characters were in such isolation (figuratively, self imposed, and -- literally for the hero) yet they were strong and compassionate. And found a deep love by being there for each other and by being themselves.
I have Silent Killer by Beverly Barton up next. And of course, JR Ward's Covet is almost here! Can't wait. Happy weekend!

I have been in a reading slump all summer. I don't know if it was because my girls were home all day and I had to find things to keep them busy, or if I just read so much last spring that I needed a break, BUT, not I am all about "The Dodd"! When I get in a slump, I turn to Christina, and right now I am reading one of her older books, "Just the way you are". I like it, but not my favorite of hers, and next I am going to start herThe Chosen Ones series. I have been waiting for those books. And then, I am going to read Pitch Black, by Leslie Parrish. I am really looking forward to that one.

This week, I finished Storm of Shadows by Christina Dodd and Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol. I had pretty high expectations for Storm of Shadows. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed with the story. The concept of the story line is fascinating; but, I was let down with the execution on this story.

I've seen several less than stellar reviews about Dan Brown's book. My reaction was very different than the reviews I read. I thought that the The Lost Symbol was very thought provoking. I really enjoyed reading it.

I'm in the middle of the anthology Unbound that has stories from Kim Harrison, Jeanienne Frost, Vicki Petterson, Jocelynn Drake & Melissa Marr. I've read the stories from Harrison, Frost & Petterson. I liked each of them in different ways. It was great to see Jenks have his own case (from the Rachel Morgan series). The Frost & Petterson stories were companion or backstories to the last books that they had released - kind of gave a more complete background to story-lines referenced in those books. I haven't yet read the Drake & Marr novellas.

The other book I'm reading is Lillith Saintcrow's Redemption Allley. I've just started it. So, it's too soon to tell.

I finished The Darkest Whisper by Gena Showalter, from her Lords of the Underworld series, a couple of days ago. I loved it...this book was the best in the series so far and the couple had it all. Good chemistry, I liked them as individuals and the story didn't drag on or make me say "Oh puleeeeze!". Even by adding new characters, the world building isn't confusing and you don't need an Excel spreadsheet to follow the series. Plus it does help that the hero, Sabin, and his alpha male cohorts push all the right bad boy buttons for me.

I started Summer of Two Wishes by Julia London. Now, I say started because I had to put this one aside for awhile. Julia London is an awesome writer, but this story is slow in some spots and out of the main 3 characters, I was finding only 1 likeable. The heroine grated on me a bit and while I'm supposed to feel sympathy for her, I'm having a hard time doing so. The second hero possibility just totally pissed me off. It takes a lot for me to want to jump into a book and slap people, but Wyatt just might make me do it.

Now, I am reading Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs, from her Alpha and Omega series. I love her books, whether the are about Mercy Thompson or Charles and Anna! I've only just begun so I haven't gotten to the meat of the story, but I know I won't be disappointed.

What to read next...hmm...I went on a mini buying binge and also won the August contest from Romance Reader at Heart, so I have quite a few choices...I'll let you know eventually what I'm picking next!

I'm almost finished with Chloe's Some Girls Bite, and I really like it. Can't wait for the 2nd book.

I'm not sure what's next, perhaps book 3 in KMM's Fever series. I haven't decided.
