We took a poll last week, and asked what you’d like to see more of in romance. The choices were, paranormal, contemporary, historical, time travel and western. Paranormal received the most votes – in fact, 37% of you said that’s what you’d like to see more of.
Personally, I thought that well had run a little dry– I’m just saying. Imagine my surprise when it would appear that many romance readers can’t get enough.
So tell me, why is it you want more paranormal. What is it about this sub-genre that has got you hooked?

Paranormal is not my favorite, and I don’t believe it ever will be, mainly because too much of the story focuses on the paranormal elements, giving less time to the romance. However I do seem to be on a paranormal kick these days.
I love the imagination involved in both creating these amazing mythological worlds, as well as the imagination it takes to explore them as a reader. I love that the heroines are usually tough, resourceful, and just as strong if not stronger than the hero. I love that anything is possible, and there can be a lot of gray areas. I love that they can be more erotic, or more violent, or more magnificient – because everything is done on such a grand scale – than a traditional contemprorary/historical. Everything is magnified, and you can visualize a lot of what happens in a paranormal on the big screen…or at least I do that while I’m reading it. It’s just good stuff

What I love about paranormals and fantasy – aside from the fact that I myself write them – is that you can simply do everything. You don’t have to stick to any correct historical details or things that just can’t be done, because everything can be done. I think it’s so much fun reading (and writing) about things that don’t really exist and that make you wonder would it would be like if those things acutally came true.
And of course, as a writer, you can create your own imperium. Makes you feel kinda almighty… *g*

I love PNR! I got hooked by reading Christine Feehan’s Dark series, and from there, I read alot. Now I’m much more selective about what I’ll read.
Why does it work for me? I’m a hero girl. In particular an alpha hero girl. And PNR almost always features a larger than life hero.
I also love, love, love the soulmates trope. It’s prevelant in PNR. Or, I love the mating bond idea, which makes it an imperative that the couple fall in love.
Plus, if the world building is excellent, it can be a fascinating experience watching a world come alive from the fertile mind of an author.

What keeps me coming back to paranormals is the fact that so many of them are completely different. The world can be ANYTHING. With an historical, in many cases, the world is pretty much set, and within that the plot and the characters are created. When I read a paranormal, I am most times surprised – and that element keeps me wanting more.

There are no rules in paranormal. Well, to be precise — you build your own rules, which you then have to stick to for each book you write in that universe. But that makes for some stellar fiction and some very interesting characters, with really different motives… so unusual from today’s world.
That makes for some very exciting stories.

The reason why I love paranormal is because it can be anything. And every women love’s a bad boy, what’s badder than an vampire, werewolf or an demon. It takes you to a whole new world not just our boring one. And I agree with the female tough lead, although I love big bad tough guys it’s good when a women bring’s them down a peg or two,lol

I like Paranormal because it’s different, yet at the same time have noticed that lately most are either Vampire or Werewolf, or Demon’s. I do wish it would expand a bit more. I do like that the heroines in most paranormals are not the subservient type, that they are the more kick butt type. I do wish a few more lighter paranormals were released, though.

I love the genre because it seems to be now more than just Vampires and Werewolves now. Now we have immortals, dragons, dark-hunters, fairies, fae, priestiess, withces, mermaids and mer-mens, Gods, Immortals, Gargoyles. Almost every creature of myth. This genre also at times gets a little complicated because sometimes I think the genre that a book will be in, is sometimes classified as urban fantasy or science fiction, even sometimes horror novels. Love my time travelers. Heh Heh, I got hooked on the PR Romances because of Sherri Kenyon and Majorie Liu, Lara Adrian to name a few.
