    The Courtship Begins Early
  • Author: Maria Lokken
  • Published: Jul 19th, 2009

harlequinxHarlequin is now courting the teen market.  Taking a page from the success of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight, they’ve created a new imprint called Harlequin Teen. The recent boom in YA novels particularly featuring a paranormal element can’t be denied, with books, movies and TV shows all moving to the number one slot on most lists. It’s likely Harlequin will do for teen romance what it’s done for adult romance, and ebooks  — and that will pretty much secure Harlequin in the top position financially in the romance genre.

Harlequin Teen’s initial roll out looks like this:

July 28
My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent.
The novel features a girl who can sense when people will die.

Aug. 25
Intertwined by Gina Showalter.
The book stars a teenage boy who has four souls living inside him and who is irresistibly drawn to a vampire princess.

October
Elphame’s Choice by P.C. Cast

As of now, approximately 20 titles are planned for 2010. They will be a mix of paranormal, science fiction and contemporary romance.

Hi Lorraine – I think they will be appropriate for your daughter. They are absolutely marketing these books to the same teenagers that read Twilight.
