Q&A with ALLEGRA
GRAY

Q: What song do you put on when you’re driving in your car?

A: I have a significant commute, so it usually goes something like this: before
kids are dropped off, children’s songs or Disney (sometimes they’ll let me talk
them into Sheryl Crow). After kids get dropped off, current rock/pop station
until it goes to commercial, then station-surfing because I can’t stand commercials,
then the classical station (I especially like Rachmaninoff).

Q: What is your favorite Classic TV Show?

A: Tough one..I’m a pretty on-the-go person, and the idea of sitting still
long enough to watch a TV show (especially an old one) is kind of foreign to
me. I do like movies though (usually action or fantasy).

Q: What is your favorite current TV Show?

A: Again, I don’t watch much, but I do like the show “House.” Great
flawed hero.

Q: Tell us about your favorite pair of shoes?

A: Oooh, now shoes, I like! Especially heels. My favorite pair (currently)
are a pair of round-toed, deep red patent leather 4-inch heels. My sister calls
them my “sexpot heels.” :)

Q: What is the worst job you ever had?

A: Guarding a dead deer. At night. With a flashlight and a walkie talkie.
True story, I swear. I was working a shift at a command post on base (in the
Air Force) and a deer jumped over a railing that had a sheer drop off on the
other side, fell several stories and didn’t survive. The appropriate authorities
had to make note of this and arrange for removal, but since it was night, this
duty went to the cops, and it wasn’t exactly an emergency, so they asked to
have someone stand guard over the scene until they got a break in calls and
could handle it. Kind of creepy, just standing there…

Q: What is the best job you ever had?

A: Besides writing? Or being a mom? Actually I love my other job, which is
as an analyst for a homeland defense mission. I like working to keep our country
and our people safer.

I write because….I have to. It’s ingrained. It’s hard, yes, but also
rewarding. I love stories and the creative process, and how powerful language
can be when used well.

NOTHING
BUT SCANDAL:
England 1814: Elizabeth Medford would do anything to avoid
marriage to ambitious and cruel Harold Wetherby–including asking London’s most
well-known rake, the Duke of Beaufort, to ruin her. But though the duke may
find her tempting, he has secrets of his own that make Elizabeth a woman he
must avoid at all costs…

OK…I have to meet the woman who wears ’sexpot heels’ and guards a deer at night. I’m hoping those two don’t go hand in hand, or should I say heel to hoof. LOL Yes, that was bad…The day seems to be getting longer and longer.

Allegra, that is one of the worst “worst job” stories ever!

Wow, what a great worst job story! LOL I agree with Kimberly–hope the sexpot heels and that one don’t go together.

Hi Allegra! Between the shoes, the deer and your job as an analyst for homeland defense I bet you have stories clamoring to get out.

I’m just got Nothing But Scandal and I’m looking forward to reading it.

    Hi Kim, Kris, and Marisa,

Yes, the deer-guarding incident was pretty eerie, and no, I wasn’t wearing the “sexpot” heels…I was wearing combat boots! :)

Now, if you catch me at RWA in a couple weeks, the sexpot heels will likely make an appearance!

Maureen, thanks :) I think I’m fortunate to have two jobs (the day job and writing) that are both interesting to me. Being mentally engaged and challenged is way better than being bored!

    thanks for stopping by!
