Q&A with KRIS
KENNEDY
Q: What song do you put on when you’re driving in your car?
A: Depends on the weather.
Sunny summer days, I’ll all over music
like Dave Matthews, Finger Eleven, Goo Goo Dolls. Winter, I tend towards classical
or jazz. And NPR is all weather radio.
Q: What is your favorite Classic TV Show?
A: Okay, this is sad, but my husband and I used to love to watch THE BRADY
BUNCH when it was on as reruns. We have so many goofy lines that we bring up
from that show, that actually fit the situation. And this was *before* we had
kids. Weird.
Q: What is your favorite current TV Show?
A: I like LIE TO ME, because I love the concept, and the characters are dimensional
and complicated. Oh, and the lead female reads romance.
I also really enjoy
UGLY BETTY & THE OFFICE, but then, I usually have to be writing when these
shows are on, so I end up missing them.
Q: Tell us about your favorite pair of shoes?
A: Ohhh, another ‘depends’ answer! Hiking boots, because, well,
I love to hike.
But I have a few pairs of super cool heels that I smile
when I see. Now I just need opportunities to wear them! Preschooler, stay-at-home
mom-dom, and an hour’s travel time to the nearest city do not tend one
towards glamorous outings. But still . . . I have those shoes.
Q: What is the worst job you ever had?
A: Hmm . . . how to decide . . . . I tried my hand at sales in college, and
failed miserably every time. Once I tried selling fire extinguisher. Fire extinguishers.
I would do the demo, then leave without asking if they wanted to buy. One couple
had to call me later to say they’d like a set. Is that sad?
Q: What is the best job you ever had?
A: Being a mom and a writer. Neither pays very well (yet!) but I adore them
both.
I write because….I have to. I love to. I want to. And I can.
THE

the lure of buried treasure, and a cunning enemy threaten a love that can unite
a realm, or bring it crashing the the ground.

OK, this whole Brady Bunch thing is starting to get kind of scary!
Didn’t anybody watch Start Trek?

LOL–I know. It’s like we’re Brandy Bunch zombies. . . omg, what an awesome book! There was Jane Austen & zombies, now the Brady Bunch & zombies.
I’m embarrassed to tell you how many scenes I can pull straight from memory and twist to fit zombie fare . . . And how well they work!
Taking a first run at it, I am drawn to the image of Jan, slurping drool, lurching towards her elder sister, moaning, “Marsha, Marsha, Marsha, MARSHA!”
But there’s so many more . . .

Woo-hoo! That’s three for the Brady Bunch. You know, really, that is a little weird isn’t it?
And fire extinguisher sales??? I’m at a loss. There has to be a joke in that…Hot, fire, romance…help me out here. LOL

Yes – I too am wondering what’s up with the Brady Bunch. Was there a favorite story line from the series that sticks in your mind?

Hi Diana,
I was a professional cherry picker- well, not really. I lasted 2 days and it was supposed to be a summer job. Lot of work for not much money.

I remember so many of the episodes, but I gotta say, I think what was so alluring, for me at least, was a sane, connected family having fun together.
‘Course, if I watched it now, I suspect the allure would be in the maid. Can I have one too?

Hi Kris – selling fire extinguishers- there has got to be fodder for a book somewhere in that experience.
As for the Brady Bunch, every Friday night when I was a VERY young girl I ran to the TV room as soon as I heard…
‘Here’s a story of a man named Brady…”

LOL- just reading the phrase, ‘Here’s a story, of a man named Brady…’ had me singing the song in my head.
As far as the fire extinguishers and a story, you’re probably right. If anyone needs a heroine who has absolutely no direction but great enthusiasm at the start of their book, let me know. I’ll sell you my former college self.

The Brady Bunch ROCKS!!! It’s good to know you share my good taste, LOL. And honestly, I didn’t know there was a hand sales person for fire extinguishers!! Snort. Because my husband is a volunteer fire fighter, I just get a kick out of it.

Unfortunately, I can’t even tell your firefighter husband I saved him or any of his colleagues a trip out, b/c I never sold a single fire extinguisher. Not one. I *could* have, had I asked, “Would you like to buy one?” But nooooo.

I’ve never been in sales, but I know I wouldn’t be able to see anything to anyone. I would need a product to sell itself.

I’m with you. Altho, to the extent I knew anything at 19, I liked the product well enough. They claimed you could eat your food after spraying it with their fire extinguisher gook.
At the time, I thought, “Oh, how cool!” Now I think, “What the heck?”
First who would want to eat it, all burned and scorched? And 2nd, sure, you CAN eat it with the fire retardant on it. And then be sure to book your oncology appointment the following day. LOL
Thanks for saying Hi!
