Q&A with PEARL
WOLF

Q: What song do you put on when you’re driving in your car?

A: Actually, I prefer listening to Books On Tape when I’m in the car.
My absolute, hands down favorite Regency novel is SYLVESTER by Georgette Heyer.
He is handsome, wealthy, arrogant and clueless when it comes to what a woman
needs—my kind of hero. Phoebe Marlowe, the heroine, is perfect—she’s
independent, feisty, spurns him at first, which brings him up short, and finally
brings this haughty aristocrat to heel.

Q: What is your favorite Classic TV Show?

A:“As Time Goes By.” It’s a BBC sitcom rerun, which stars
my favorite actress, Dame Judi Dench. The story is about a second chance romance,
after the hero and heroine have already been married once to other people. When
they meet again, sparks fly. The dialogue is brilliant and when Dame Dench giggles,
I go weak in the knees.

Q: What is your favorite current TV Show?

A:“Nurse Jackie” on Showtime. Played by Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
is a flawed character hooked on drugs, who is loveable just the same. She’s
a sort of ‘Robin Hood’ nurse who punishes villains to avenge victims.
The ad for the show states: “Life is full of little pricks.”

Q: Tell us about your favorite pair of shoes?

A: Platform shoes were all the rage when I was a teenager. They were far more
comfortable than high heels, which hurt like hell. My favorite was a pair of
black suede platforms with ankle straps. Very sexy.

Q: What is the worst job you ever had?

A: One summer when I was a teenager still in high school, I got a job in a
factory that made miniature games. The games came in a small fake leather boxes
that snapped closed. My job was to count out the tiny pieces and put them in
the box. I nearly went blind counting out proper chess pieces and/or checker
pieces for each box. Boring, boring, boring!

Q: What is the best job you ever had?

A: Writing. Hands down, writing is absolutely the best job I’ve ever
had. For one, I am my own boss. I love what I’m doing and I am never bored.
Best of all, the positive feedback from readers is a glorious reward.

I write because…. I must. Writing is as much a basic necessity for me
as is food, shelter and clothing. I love to write historical romance novels,
but I also read a great many historical romance novels in addition to research
materials. Both enhance my work. Writing keeps me alive. It stimulates my creativity,
and at my age (I am 79 years old) that’s everything!

TOO

TOO HOT FOR A RAKE is due in 2010.

    Hi Pearl,
I keep seeing billboards advertising “Nurse Jackie,” but I haven’t had a chance to check out the show. Edie’s a wonderful actress.

You go, girl! I’ll say, your worst job was certainly a bad one. Here’s to following your bliss instead.

    Hi Pearl,
What is your writing schedule like now? Do you write 8 hours? Do you write in the am or pm? And what inspires you? How old were you when you were first published?
