emma_hollyAnyone who’s read my books can tell you I’m fan of big pleasures *g*, but sometimes it’s the little ones that get us through the day to day.

You can wake up in the morning to golden spring sunshine beaming through the window, remember the nice dream you had, step into the shower and find there’s plenty of hot water. Your bagel (or Poptart) might be toasted just right, and the coffee you decided to try the other day could turn out to be the best ever.

Maybe you find the perfect parking space, or reach the bus stop just as the bus is arriving. Someone might compliment you out of the blue on exactly the thing you were concerned about. (Wow, Sally, that’s a FABulous shade of blonde on you!) The cute construction guys could have their shirts off, and who could harsh your buzz when you open the email from the dear old friend you haven’t heard from in years?

Lunch could be a lovely coze with your best buddy, and when you go to the bookstore, the romance you feel like you’ve been waiting for forever might be on sale! In fact, maybe *your* book is on the shelf, and even as you stand there, someone grabs it and hugs it to them as if they can’t stand to be without it one second more. When you get the book you bought home, it could be ten times better than you hoped. You might get so engrossed no one would dare interrupt you. I predict you’ll reach The End with a happy sigh.

3midnightMaybe you sneak a walk into your day, and the baby ducklings are cheeping for all they’re worth by the sparkling lake. Maybe the lilac bushes smell like heaven, and your new sneakers make your feet feel like they’re bouncing. Maybe every dog you meet wants to wag its tail at you. You’re a special human! Who wouldn’t be delighted in your company?

Now imagine dinner is delicious (you win raves for it if you cooked). Even better, one of your kids tells you a story that lets you know he/she really is turning out to be a pretty cool person! Your favorite show comes on TV and makes you excited about how many talented people walk the planet. As your head hits your fluffy pillow, full of the little pleasures you enjoyed that day, you’re thinking you might be talented, too. Maybe you’ll dream about what you could do with all your brilliant potential. Maybe when you wake up, you’ll know . . .

So that’s my list of little pleasures. What are your favorites?

Hi Emma! I just finished reading Kissing Midnight and I loved it! Edmund and Estelle’s book was riveting and I’m really looking forward to Breaking Midnight to find out what happens next. I’m so glad that the releases will be back to back. Is it hard writing back to back releases?

Speaking of which, that is certainly one of my ‘little’ pleasures, when a series comes out and I know that the books are going to be released one after the other and I don’t have to wait two to three years I’m in heaven.

I also love the summers when the kids are out of school and we get to spend time together and we’re not all rushing around trying to get a million things done. Having lazy days together is my idea of a great time!

Welcome Emma – thanks so much for joining us today. I’m a big fan of your work and I’m really looking forward to reading Kissing Midnight!

I’m with Jerri – back to back releases are certainly a pleasure.

Other ‘little pleasures’ are sunny days… we haven’t had much of that here in the north east. It’s been raining non-stop for weeks – so when the sun eventually comes out I’m definitely going to stop what I’m doing and take a walk. This time of year I like to spend as much time as I can outdoors taking walks, visiting with friends and having dinner out doors – when ever I get a chance to do those things I always have a smile on my face.

Oh, Emma! Your way with words always inspires me to get out and write — or just to enjoy the simple pleasure in life. What about the way the dog jumps up and down wagging his tail whenever you take him for a walk? Or the way the squirrels chase each other around the telephone pole while you’re out walking? I like it when I see white tailed deer in the woods behind my mother’s house — they are so beautiful and noble, just like the heroes in your wonderful books!

Hi, Emma! So glad you’re here today. I loved Kissing Midnight–as you can tell from my review!–and I just finished Breaking Midnight. Wow! Loved it! I’m working on the review right now.

Yes, back to back releases are one of my little pleasures. I love a sunny day that’s not too hot, watching my flowers burst into bloom, seeing the deer and rabbits scamper through my yard, my first cup of coffee in the morning, laughing till I cry, hearing my children laugh….oh,, the list could go on and on. But I have to dash off to work. I’ll check back later this afternoon.

Hi Jerri! So glad you loved Kissing Midnight! I wrote the back to back releases at my regular speed, so they weren’t hard. My publisher just held them back a bit so they could come out together. Lazy days are good. I try to get a little lazing into every one :-)

Hi Marisa. Thanks for having me! I love the outdoors, too, and sidewalk cafes. Eating there makes me feel like I’m cool!

Thank you, Carol! I like seeing deer, too, though please don’t tell my heroes they remind you of them. LOL. I’m sure they’d rather be compared to pumas, or something like that!

Hi Gannon! I’m glad you’re enjoying the books. Thanks for taking the time to review them! We get rabbits here in the city, too. Love the little baby ones. Guess I’m girly that way *g*

    Hi Emma!

I LURVE your books! And Kiss of Midnight is just wonderful! XD

My little pleasure, finding that ‘me time’ and a good book to lounge on the bed with. Nothing like it! :)

Hey, Miss Holly! Love your vamps. Kissing Midnight is SO good.

One of my fav simple pleasures is waking up to a cat snuggling close to your face and purring. Gotta love those kitty hugs!

    Hi Emma,

Love your books and am looking forward to your new series!

My simple pleasures are sitting outside in the sun on a warm day reading a good book. And during winter, I’m a sucker for drinking a mug of cinnamon hot cocoa every night before bed.

    My simple pleasures day?

I’d wake up to the birds chirping (we have plenty in the house, not to mention the wild ones out side) and my tea would be ready and waiting. My hubby would have already given the children brakfast and they would all be giving me hugs on their way out the door to school and work. I’d have my homemade cinnamon rolls (at least 2) sitting on a plate right next to my tea and a book for me to read (hopefully Kissing Midnight).
After finishing my tea and cini-roll I’d head outside to the absolutly beautiful day where I would curl up on my bench swing with my book. My cat sitting on the swinging bench with me (most likely on my feet) my dog laying next to the swing chewing on one of his rawhide bones.
Lunch would come and I would find something my honey prepared for me to just heat up. (He’s sweet like that) After enjoying a supurb lunch I’d go back and finish the last chapters of the book. Giving a contented sigh as I reach The End.
Then realizing the time I’d walk up to the mail box with my dog and find the books that I’d orderd had finally arrived. (yea more books!). I’d head back to the house with a slight breeze cooling me during my 1 1/2 mile walk to my mail box.
Back at home I’d be trying to decide what to do for dinner when my hubby would show up with my darling children and announce that I didn’t have to cook that night they were taking me out to dinner.
After dinner we’d go back home where the kids would go to bed, and hubby and I would curl up on the couch and talk about our days then off to bed…

    *sigh*

One of my little pleasures is pampering myself by having a mani/pedi. It’s also great when I can just lie down on the couch with a book.

Emma Holly, you’re one of my favorite authors! I just picked up KM yesterday, after a great meal, taking a lovely walk with friends and stopping by the local B&N. That’s what I call life’s simple pleasures. Days filled with lots of laughs, good food, sharing time with friends, and just taking in the day.

My guiltiest pleasure is buying a really expensive cup of ice coffee at Starbucks and then getting a pedicure right across the street. Only in NYC you get a manicure and coffee on the same block. I love your books Ms. Holly, and I wish you nothing but the best!

Bridgett – I’ll do my best.

Thanks, Miz Michele. Ahh . . . kitty love.

Jody–Spicy cocoa, yum! (Spicy anything, actually :-) )

Dorthy–I’m feelin’ your dream day! LOL.

    Sounds decadent, cyclops!

Thank you, Jeannie. I hope you enjoy KM!

Favorite times, simple pleasures? Ah, too many to name and never enough time to see them through. BUT, when I do get some time, my very favorite simple pleasures are sleeping in late (not waking to the screech of the alarm), eating lunch for breakfast (my favorite meals are sandwiches), and taking exceeding long baths ( there is only one tub and 4 of us).

    Hi Emma
I love your stories and thank you for sharing your talent with us.
You wanted to know what some of my pleasures are.
Spending time with family, nothing like unconditional love for you
    Reading a Good book
    Laughing with my RBL sisters {even though I don’t post much}
These are just a few of the many pleasures I enjoy in my life.

I’d been waiting for Kissing Midnight since it was first announced on your website, and bought it the day it was released–and obviously loved it. I must concur with Jerri on finding pleasure in a back-to-back series from a favorite author. *g*

But I find my greatest pleasure in loving myself. It’s been a long journey to that point in my life, but now that I’m here, I savor it. A more mundane pleasure is reading a really good book.

    Emma,
Thank you for the back to backs…there is a super feeling than knowing you only have to wait a few weeks for the next installment. My simple pleasure is my bassett hound Maverick. We’ve only been together for a few months but I couldn’t imagine my mornings, evenings, or weekends without him. It seems like every morning when the alarm rings we both grown and stretch at the same time and look at each other like whose going to turn it off. Ditto with Marissa on the non-stop rain in the Northeast/mid-Atlantic but this weekend it was perfect and being able to sit outside on our blanket with ice tea/lemonade and my latest guilty billionaire seducer read *g* next to my sweetie was HEAVEN!

Sally R–Eating lunch for breakfast. I’ll have to try that. I’m a definite fan of the occasional “dessert for breakfast” choice *g*.

Hey, CindyO! Thanks for dropping by from RBL!

Evangeline, I know how you meant that, and I applaud you. (Trying not to giggle with my dirty mind :-) )

Your weekend read sounds perfect, Abby!

Yeah, Karen, it’s the cleaning up after making dinner that puts the cherry on the top *g*

Thank you, Mandy! (And I agree on the hair stroking. Blissful!)

You asked what special pleasures touches us?
Mine are (in no particular order), singing, dancing, smelling my husband early in the morning, working in the ED, laughing! Holding hands with my hubby. Driving like a bat out of H-LL in a car that’s meant to scream around corners at warp speeds… Playing with the grandkids. Walking and talking with my daughters. Snuggles and cuddles abound! Oh- and Tim’s Old Fashioned Home made Root-beer!

Hi Emma, your books are great. Good luck with then next one.
Some of my pleasures are getting up early seeing the mist floating above the lake or river and it’s still, not a sign of life. Nice and peaceful. Snuggling with my husband after a shower, he smells awsome. He’s warm blooded and on cool days it’s like being surrounded by a blanket and I can feel the cold just melting away. Kittens soft, fuzzy and purring up a storm.

Life’s Little Pleasures…sounds like the title of a book.
For me sitting on my porch with a cup of tea early in the morning with a book is the best of those little pleasures. It’s quiet and cool then. The best time of the day. Or one of my kids calling to talk. Having the dogs curl up with me while I read or watch a movie. The smell of a new box of crayons. Seeing one of my students smile (I teach severe/profound children). A hug from my teenaged son cause he’s not too old to hug his mama.

Just a few things that make life wonderful.

I love your books, Emma! Thanks for adding to life’s little pleasures.
