I think people end up talking movie media instead of book media because, even in a group of romance readers, it can be more of a common demoninator. As for my inner biker chick, her name is Estelle and I haven't written her book yet. An inner biker chick sounds like somebody who's tough all the time instead of somebody who learns to be tough over the course of the book/movie and finally, at the end, she kicks some awful dude in the teabags. That type of thing makes me cheer, though :)

Yeah, I like the guys, too, Pam! And I've got to check out some of those books. I have to confess, I'm not really sure what urban fantasy is, but it sounds like something I'd like.

Happy Mother's Day to you, too, Pam (if it's appropriate!) and to all the mothers here.

Raina Bowen is a good, Maria. There are so many urban fantasy stories now with lots of kicking heroines, like Cat in Jeaniene Frost's series. I think when it comes to the books, many of us tend to focus on the guys, lol.

Happy Mother's Day.

Good, to hear, Maria. I have some favorite heroines, too. Clare Randall of Outlander comes to mind. I also like Eve Dallas. What a f#$ed up mess she is, but she is also one cool chick. I don't know the Night Huntress Series or Driven and if Lover Revenged is the latest JR Ward I haven't read it yet. But good to hear it's not just TV and the movies that draws us in.

Annie - Heck no - romance heroines from books are unique and definitely stay with me. In fact, they're better than TV or Film heroines, because I can pretty much imagine what I want them to look like albeit within the confines of what the author has described.

Who can forget Eve Dallas from the In Death Series, or Kat Crawfield from the Night Huntress Series, or Raina Bowen in Driven, Xhex in Lover Avenged or Edie Swann from your very own One Deadly Sin.

There's a truck load of them. They're all unique and they have ALL stayed with me. I love me some rough and tumble ready to take on the world romance heroines in my books.

LOL! I do have an inner Jane! Whew! Funny you should mention it. I kinda always had this secret crush on Tarzan. I guess my inner biker chick might be Jane Goodall. Anyone brave enough to hang out with gorillas and face down stinking poachers has some serious attitude. Gotta love those adventurous women!

Whew, Maria. I was starting to think I was the only one. Though, I never watched Charmed either. Not enough boy booty, I guess! But I am a big Jennifer Garner fan. She just makes me smile. There's something so warm about her screen presence. I thought she was amazing in 13 Going on 30--or whatever the name of that movie was.

You know--this is interesting. I started the blog out talking about a character in a BOOK, and now we're all talking about TV and movies. Wonder what that says about book heroines, biker chicks or not. Are they forgettable? Do our romance heroines tend to blend into one another? Gee, I hope not. Or is it just that the visual is so much more powerful? Or makes a bigger cultural splash?

Annie - don't feel bad - I never watched Buffy or Angel... But I did watch Charmed - and all three (or four sisters, depending on what year you tuned into the show) were kick ass biker chicks. Fighting demons on a regular basis... Now isn't that what life is all about.

When it comes to Sydney Bistrow from Alias - she really was a biker chick, and I think what made her so special is that you didn't expect her to kick ass and take names and numbers. She had her own unique awesomeness.

Don't panic, Monica. You may not have an inner biker chick, but I suspect there's an inner "Jane" (as in me Tarzan, you Jane) lurking somewhere.
