Three reasons why my life is like a paranormal romance…first, what is the definition of a paranormal romance? Heading straight to that all knowing source WIKIpedia
“…A type of speculative fiction, paranormal romance focuses on romance and included elements beyond the range of scientific explanation, blending together themes from the genres of traditional fantasy, science fiction, or horror. Paranormal romance may range from traditional category romances, such as those published by Harlequin Mills & Boon, with a paranormal setting to stories where the main emphasis is on a science fiction or fantasy based plot with a romantic subplot included. Common hallmarks are romantic relationships between humans and vampires, shapeshifters, or fantastical beings (the Fae, Elves, etc.).
Beyond the more prevalent themes involving vampires, shapeshifters, ghosts, or time travel, paranormal romances can also include books featuring characters with psychic abilities, like telekinesis or telepathy.
Paranormal romance has its roots in Gothic fiction…“
“…elements beyond the range of scientific explanation…” If this is like the new oven suddenly not working the day all the Christmas cookie dough is ready to be baked (ie: December 24th), or the dryer deciding heat is a really bad thing, or the dog deciding the vet is NOT her friend after five years, then yeah, I’m so there on that one.
“…such as those published by Harlequin Mills and Boon…” Ok, CHECK. Yep, I’m claiming this one as a total cheat.
“… romantic relationships between humans and vampires, shapeshifters, or fantastical beings…” Fantastical beings. So, does the dh who secretly plans and totally pulls off a twenty-fifth wedding renewal ceremony in the mountains count as a fantastical being? How about if he even got down on his knee outside the church while I sat in the car totally focused on the furniture store next door? Well, hey, we were out “shopping” to find this one particular rocker I wanted…
“…featuring characters with psychic abilities, like telekinesis or telepathy…” Sort of like the mother who KNOWS there was an accident before the police show up at the door? Or the wife who KNOWS the dh needs a hug before he walks in the house? Or the couple who share a look across the room that they both recognize as “let’s get out of here”? Then, yep, I’m there, too.
To some extent, aren’t we all a little “paranormal”?

Just had to mention how much I’m enjoying your book this month! I’m flying through it. I want to BEAT on Braeden as much as I want to see just how amazing those violet eyes are. YUM! Great story!
Love the definition of Para Romance too.
As for the oblivious nature of your re-proposal…LMAO! OH man…sounds like something I’d totally do.
Kudos, Ms. Lynn–I’m totally digging your series–can’t wait for Book2!

Hi Denise,
I can’t stop laughing at the second reason your life is like a paranormal romance. Fantastical beings? Yes by dh is also a fantastical being, and I feel very lucky. I guess to some extent we are all just a little bit paranormal.
Answer to the question is that you can be found in the library researching.

Hi Denise,
You are so right. I too am a bit paranormal, but I think all moms are. I can always tell when my kids need me. I think there must be some hard wiring in the genetic code of all mothers so that when our kids are away from home we can sense them. I call it my 7th sense. I could be in the middle of a meeting and know that my youngest needs to talk to me, it’s uncanny.

Good morning Denise, I’m so glad you could visit with us today.
Some times my life is very much like a paranormal romance in that “…elements beyond the range of scientific explanation…” happen on a regular basis. I can’t explain why some days all the lights in my house decide to flicker, or that my car which worked perfectly yesterday is stalling every five minutes today. I totally get that.
The exciting thing is sometimes the elements beyond the range of scientific explanation surprise and delight me and I’m always up for that.

Hi Denise! Welcome to RNTV –
Yes, I think we’re all a little ‘paranormal’ – As an identical twin, I totally know what it is to perceive things before they happen when it involves my sister. Sometimes it’s spooky, but sometimes, it comes in very handy.

Good morning! Got waylaid on the way down to my dungeon…cats…whining cats. They don’t want you unless you have something to do. (sigh).
TaraLeigh–Thank you! I am so glad you’re enjoying the story. Ah, yes, isn’t Braeden baseball bat worthy at times? Thankfully, it’s just a story. LOL.
Christy Louis — I feel lucky also. At least the dh knows I get distracted easily — not that he takes advantage of that….
FrancineS — it probably is hard wired. What I found strange is that it doesn’t go away, no matter the age of the “child” or the distance from home.
Marisa — ohhh, the good things — like when you’re dying for a piece of chocolate and by some miracle there’s still a mini dove bar left in the bottom of the bag.
Blodeuedd, Sonya Hucks, all — I should have added “sneezing” to that. For some reason the last research trip to the library involved tons of sneezing. I’m thinking they changed cleaning products…
Destiny08 — he is the romantic one of the family. He’s the one who spends hours at Hallmark buying cards, the one who sends postcards when he’s on the road and hand writes the little card that comes with the flowers. He’s full of surprises.
Maria — my grandmother and I were like that. I could be in dead sleep and wake up knowing something was up. And when I’d call her, she’d be right on top the phone. I never thought it was freaky, because it was just…normal. Unexplainable, but normal.

Wow Denise your dh sounds great. I once had a boyfriend who would wander through the Hallmark aisle at the local drugstore, and then make a card based on what he saw. It was rather romantic – he always put his own twist on it.

Hi Denise,
Great Blog. Thanks for making me smile so early in the morning.
There are many times I feel as if my life were a made for television paranormal mini-series, only I’m always waiting for the commercial break. There are also times I wish I had the power to talk to all the appliances in my house and coax them into working.
And to answer the question, you can be found doing research.

Paige — thanks. Glad I could help start the day with a smile. Yeah, we do need commercial breaks every now and then don’t we? The bad part about begging and pleading with appliances, is that I swear you can hear their laughter.

My life is fairly predictable but I do love a good serendipitous situation every now and again. When things come together in just that perfect way, then I always think that there is magic in the world. Your dh sounds amazing and romantic. I’m going to show this blog to my dh so perhaps he can come with an idea or two like that.

Hi Denise,
I think my life is definitely all about the paranormal. I so relate to the whole mom thing. I think I could run a small country the way I run my household, but I couldn’t do it with out that little extra Mom gene that makes me a bit spooky. Or so my kids say. At least they think I have magic powers because they can’t seem to get anything by me.

Hi Denise!
I love the way you broke down the explanation of paranormal romance and showed how it can apply to everyone’s lives. Just looking at the things you posted, I have to agree that most people have brushed up against something that could be considered paranormal, even if they won’t admit it. Your dh sounds wonderful.

Hi Denise,
I always think of paranormal as over-the-top out of the ordinary (that’s quite a mouthful!), so it was really cool to hear your definition, which includes the unexpainable, yet ordinary, weirdness of our days. That being said, I’m sooo glad Braeden and Alexia were dealing with way out there paranormal! Dragon’s Lair was such a great read!
Your hubby sounds like he might have a little bit of magic in him to plan such an awesome wedding renewal–are you not telling us something? Hmmm…. Ha! ha!
Thanks for the great interview–and please tell me we’ll be reading more of the Drake family?? Please?
