Lilith Saintcrow is the author of the Jill Kismet and Dante Valentine series, as well as several other paranormal romance, fantasy, and horror novels. She lives in Vancouver, Washington.
Hello, gentle Reader, and welcome to a list of three things you don’t know about me. I have no huge secrets or anything, you probably just don’t know these things because I am a very boring person.
No, really. I am. I suspect the gods tune into my life when they want a good snooze. The most excitement I generally get is a puking six-year-old, or teaching a teenager to drive.
Hm. Maybe my life is a little more exciting than I let on. But I digress.
The Top Three Things You Don’t Know About Me
3. I buy my clothes in lots. See, I told you I’m not very interesting. When I get clothes, I find something I like and then buy all I can afford of them. This is because as soon as I find out I like a brand of clothing, that brand immediately either tanks or stops making the exact thing I like. (It’s a conspiracy, I tell you.) So my uniforms are: dark T-shirt, dark sweater, and yoga pants. Every day. This way I don’t have to worry about what to wear ever again. All I have to do is change my jewelry up, and I like that. I am mystified by people who actually enjoy clothes shopping.
Pretty much the only thing I enjoy shopping for is books. I could spend hours in bookstores. But clothes, or anything else? I tend to make banzai runs once I know exactly what I want, and God help anyone who gets in
my way.
2. I don’t like ice cream. I must be the only person on earth who doesn’t. Cold desserts make my teth hurt and I cry like a baby. I do, however, make exceptions for tiramisu and cheesecake with chocolate ganache. Hey, life is all about the exceptions, isn’t it?
Come to think of it, once I hit thirty my sweet tooth changed drastically. Now I am on the quest for the perfect dark-chocolate-and-chili-pepper combination. Things that I used to love to eat when I was younger no longer taste good. I could mourn for them, but there are so many new, interesting tastes out there to try.
1. The number one thing people don’t know about me? I am afraid of rats. I know rats make great, intelligent, cuddly pets. Really, I do. But it’s their tails. Their naked tails fill me with fear. Remember that Room 101 scene in 1984? Reading that scared the bejesus out of me. I am phobic about rats.
Just typing that gave me the shivers. I am also irrationally afraid of zombies. Movies like 28 Days Later give me the heebie-jeebies.
This is a useful thing. I keep myself motivated to work out and eat reasonably by imagining zombie outbreaks. The rational, reasonable part of me says such a thing will never happen.
The other ninety percent of me says, “Sure it won’t. But if it does, we’ll be ready.”
There are plenty of other things people don’t know about me, but let’s leave those in the bathroom where they belong, shall we?
I knew you’d agree.
Ok, Now go to the Samhain website , check out Lilith’s book Steelflower, and come back and let us know who wants to kill Kaia Steelflower?

I don’t mind rats or snakes or such things. but I HATE spiders. I could even probably expand that to most insects! lol

Also, I hate clothes shopping as well. But mostly cause I can’t find anything I a) like b) fits me lol
Oh, and to answer your question: The God-Emperor

Hey Lilith it’s great to have you here.
The older I get, the less I care about what I wear. I just want to be comfortable. Shoes? OMG, what is the obsession with shoes? Totally don’t get that.
I never used to like ice cream either, for the same reason. Now I like it a little melted and I have no problem eating it. And that’s a problem, at least for my waistline. And I’ve started to like things less sweet these days. But I still couldn’t drink coffee black.

Stacy – I definitely have an obsession with shoes. Can’t explain it, but there you have it. Marisa swears she doesn’t have the same obsession, but it’s a total lie – all you have to do is look in her closet.
Lilith – I’m with you on the rats. Personally, I’ve been known not to love anything that walks around on all fours, but I don’t really announce that too loudly.

I HATE rats for the same reason too! I buy my clothes the same way! The BEST way, as far as I’m concerned!! And the ice cream thing…well, I only eat it a couple of times a year…maybe!!
The answer; God-Emperor’s assassins!

Sounds like Kaia’s got lots of trouble, but the God-Emperor’s assassins want to kill her.

Hi Lilith!
I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m phobic about rats, but I’m definitely afraid of them. Part of it is their naked tail, but another part has to do with just how many times in the past disease epidemics have been tied to wild rats spreading them. *shudder* I hope I never see a rat, even in a lab (which is part of the reason I never took a neuroscience class).

I don’t like rats either, Lilith, a little field mouse scampering around I can handle, but rats, eek! I remember driving around in my teens with a girlfriend who is deathly afraid of them. We had just pulled out of some place in my old Dodge in summer, when she started shrieking and frantically rolling up the car windows, telling me and my sister to hurry up and roll up the ones near us. I laughed and said it won’t get in the car, and besides, the convertible top is down.

I don’t like ice cream either, lol. I LOVE dark chocolate though… especially with cocoa nibs or hazelnuts or orange to add a bit of crunch!
your wardrobe sounds like mine, except I’m not usually lucky enough to find a bunch all at once. I usually find the last one ever. Especially when it comes to comfortable shoes. They always discontinue my favorite shoes.

I loathe rats. My children love to tease me with rats. Once my best friend brought over a box of food for a party. She gave it to me and as I started to unload it, I felt something furry and saw a rodent. I screamed and jumped. It was a fake. Everyone thought it was a good laugh. Oh yeah, both my friend and I were in our late 30s at the time.

Hi Lilith! I’m with you on the clothes shopping thing. Absolutely hate it! Now zombies on the other hand… Have you seen the movie Shaun of the Dead? Might just change your perception of zombies. It’s actually really funny.

Hi Lilith, rats? Who likes rats? I don’t blame you. I don’t even want to be near a guinea – pig. And squirrels. NO thank you. I had a neighbor who once trained the squirrels outside of our apartment building and every time you left the house they’d follow you for blocks hoping to get food. It was terrifying. It got so I was afraid to leave the house.

Hmmm…rats! Eeek!
I should tell you a funny (not so funny) story about the time I accidentally washed a mouse with a load of towels in my washing machine. LOL I can laugh now…but opening that lid to the machine and seeing him laying there dead on top of my favorite towels….wahhh!!
What a bad a$$ chick on the cover, too. Love it!
Question for you: Vancouver, Washington. Have you ever visited Snoqualmie Falls? I want to go there. I hear it is beautiful. What is your fave place to visit (anywhere on earth)?

Me, I am insanely afraid of snakes! They just freak me out. Actually, any kind of amphibian is not for me, lol. I guess I like animals that have fur – minus rodents and tarantulas.
I also shop and dress the way you do. It’s like a military excursion, lol. I know what I want going in, so I go in, get it and get out. I also buy 2 or 3 pairs of the same pants, etc. I can totally relate to you on that.
And bookstores are the ONLY place I can while away the hours. Clothes, shoes, purses, make-up, etc hold very little interest for me. I just get the basics, stay warm and comfortable, don’t care what anyone else thinks of how I look.
The answer to the question is: the God-Emperor’s assassins want to kill her.

Wow, no argument from me on the rodents–eew! We live in an area with quite a rodent population, and we call our exterminators frequently–no way am I able to deal with those myself! I do have a fondness for ice cream though
And yikes, Kaia’s fleeing the God-Emperor’s assassins, who seem to be out for her life.

Hey,
I am with you when your right! I fear rats, snakes, blood, needles & public speaking (not necessarily in that order). I don’t know where this irrational fear comes from .. but, its there, and as much as I convince myself that (next time) I’ll be calm I find myself screaming bloody murder & trying to climb brick walls when I encounter one of these creatures, or situations. However, as much as I fear these animals & situations I would never go out of my way to harm one of these creatures, or stop a doc’ from taking my blood for medical purposes. If you insist that I speak in a public forum .. just give me 5 minutes .. to hurl in a bucket in some quiet corner… allow me to wipe the vomit off of my chin & I”ll be right quick with the honor of saying something “stupid…” I know… I know.. its completely irrational.. but, it is, what it is.. at least, I am not the only one.

Lilith, I stumbled across your book “Night Shift” at the library. I LOVED it. So of course I had to read all of your books. Everyone thinks I’m crazy for falling for a demon (Jaf). I am disabled and after working for 12 years to suddenly be unable to work much less get out of the house, is very depressing. I wanted to THANK YOU for giving me something to look forward to. Sincerely, Bonnie
