I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. And now the holiday season is officially in full swing! Many people woke up early (or never went to sleep) to shop on Black Friday and if you are one of those people, I hope your experience was well worth it. As for me, I slept in. I did Black Friday one time and I don’t think I’ll ever do it again. I actually do a lot of my shopping online. As much as I love to go out and shop in the stores for that perfect gift, I’ve found that with two kids it’s a whole lot easier to shop for Christmas presents from the comforts of home. And with great deals and free shipping, you really can’t beat it!
Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or Winter Solstice, chances are you give and receive gifts. We’d like to know — what is the best gift you’ve ever given and what is the best gift you’ve ever received? Tell us and one random poster (living within the United States) will win a free book!
Now on to the list of December releases. Which ones have you read and recommend? Which ones are on your holiday wish list? There are a lot of amazing books out this month to warm up your holidays — so grab a blanket, a hot cup of coffee/tea/chocolate and curl up with a great romance.
Until January, happy reading!

Lemme see… Her Montana Man is excellent and so is What a Scoundrel Wants; Scions: Revelation answered a lot of my questions, but left a few threads open which I hope will be answered some time. And Undercover is just great.
I am hoping to get Unlaced, The Pagan Stone, Midnight Sins, and Untamed.

I’m sure all those historicals and paranormals are on my wishlist already, and I am looking forward to reading Sasha White’s Primal Male. Love Shelly Laurenston’s books, fun and feisty, including her dragon series now reissued under G. A. Aiken (About a Dragon above).
One of the best gifts was when my father gave me his all-expense trip to a resort in Mexico, perfect getaway from the cold in January a few years back, and then all the handmade gifts from my nieces and nephews over the years, they were all pretty good with the pottery and tiles. Best gifts I give, I always look for something they all want but won’t spend the money on, or for the young nieces and nephews what they really want their parents may not want to get, like the drums they don’t want to listen to all day long, lol.

The best gift I ever got was a record player, when I was 6 or 7. It was a great gift because I really wanted one but I didn’t have the guts to ask my parents for it because I thought they would say no. Of course, it broke 2 weeks after Christmas… but it was great while it lasted.
The best gift I ever gave someone is harder. Hmmmm. Oh, one year my mom came home from a craft fair and told me about this painting she saw that she really liked but decided not to buy because it was $40 (quelle horreur). So the next day I snuck to the craft fair and luckily they still had the painting–I knew which one it was just based on her description. She was so happy and surprised when she opened the box. That was definitely one of my better gifts.

I’ve the reissues by Karen Hawkins and Cathy Maxwell when they were originally published. I’m looking forward to all the romantic suspense and historical titles. The best gift I ever got was a plane ticket to Amsterdam. My cousin had been dropping hints for a Kitchen Aid mixer, so a couple of us chipped in to buy it for her.

Wow – those gifts sound amazing.
Cyclops8 – I wanted a Kitchen Aid mixer for the LONGEST time. Finally, a couple of Christamas’ ago my husband got it for me. Well – there was flour flying all over the place. I was DELIGHTED – I made breads, pizza, cookies – anything you could mix, was put in that mixer. I won’t say everything was eatable – but it’s one of my favorite kitchen tools!
I must admit – seeing all these books listed out, I don’t know where to start first. It makes me just want to stay home and read. Alas – no can do -but I am going to read this month, every chance I get.

Blaze should have up a warning label on that book! Needless to say . . . I *totally* enjoyed it. What’s not to love about hot, sexy firefighters
I think the best gift I ever gave was 11 years ago. The dh and I were expecting our first child and gave each set of grandparents a baby picture frame as our way of telling them. That day was full of tears and smiles and so much love.

It’s another great month for romance! Books I highly recommend are To Sin With a Stranger, When the Duke Returns and A Stone Creek Christmas. Welcome to Serenity is on my tbr and I think it may be time for a re-read of The Abduction of Julia. It’s been years since I read the original. I’m also looking forward to His Woman.
The best gift I ever gave was undoubtedly a trip to Italy for my niece. A few Christmas gifts I’ve received that immediately come to mind…a black onyx ring from my parents when I was 14 ( I still have it), a new TransAm from my dh (lost it to a minivan when his mother came to live with us but enjoyed the heck out of it while I had it!) and a Canon XTi digital slr camera (Merry Christmas to me gift two years ago).
My most memorable Christmas gift wasn’t given to me directly but I probably enjoyed it more than anyone. I was 20 and it was a month in Florida with my three younger brothers (15, 14, 11) while my parents stayed in Michigan awaiting the birth of my youngest brother. (Mom was on complete bed rest and in danger of losing the baby) The trip included getting lost in the middle of the night somewhere in Kentucky, a stay at the newly-opened Disney World, a hot lifeguard, a high-speed tour of the DW underground on the way to an emergency hospital visit, a week in Key West, hot sailors, a close stingray encounter (and another hospital visit), a college bowl game in Miami, a room on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale, a hot guy staying with his family in the room next door, a broken down car in the middle of nowhere, Tennessee, a cozy night with 8 other people in a pop-up camper in Key Largo (following a meal that included beans), driving the last 100 miles home on a never-ending sheet of ice and the highlight of the entire experience…the arrival of my youngest brother on Christmas morning.

PJ — it was such a fun day. At the time my hubby’s brother was in his last year or so of college. We always told him that when we finally had a baby that he would no longer be able to get anything he wanted from his parents. So while my mil was opening the picture frame, Paul was opening his own gift from us. It was a note, done in a ransom style (words cut from different magazine articles) that said “You have less that 9 months to suck your mom and dad dry”. The look on his face was priceless.

*running in* Dammit! Late to the party! I’ve only read ONE book on this list, can you believe it? The Pagan Stone by Nora Roberts. My review will be up in a couple of weeks, but I thought it was most excellent — and a little twisted.
I’m currently re-reading Lover Awakened for next week’s Virgin Hero Extravaganza. But I’ve got the most recent Maya Banks (which should be interesting, because it’s three heroes, one heroine) and the new Karen Hawkins contemp.
But my TBR stack is towering, so I should probably put a moratorium on buying more books. You’ll note I said “probably” not will…
Great list, as always Andrea! You rock!

Great books for December. Here are the ones that I’ve read: To Sin With A Stranger, Phantom’s Touch, The Pagan Stone, and You and No Other (years ago, but I love it). Needless to say, my TBR stack is huge!
The best Christmas gift I ever received was from my in-laws. My husband had just deployed and I had just found out we were expecting our daughter (baby #3), so my in-laws gave me the gift of a housekeeper for a year. It was the best and most thoughtful gift! And I loved my housekeeper, Terri, so much she continued to work for us until we moved.
The best present I gave would be simple. A couple of years ago, I made a calendar for my parents and each month had a different picture of one of the kids or us as a family. The absolutely loved it! We don’t get to see them a lot, so it made them feel a little closer to us.
PJ, your road trip was priceless!

My best gift ever was from my daughter. Art is her hobby and she is very gifted at it. One year as a poor college student unable to afford to buy gifts, she gave me the gift of choosing any one of her pieces. It was a difficult choice to choose just one but that one still
hangs in a place of honor in my home. I see it daily and it brings warm thoughts to me of both the subject and the artist
Several years ago a distant relative visited us. As they were leaving to continue their journey, his traveling companion showed me a Swedish weave afghan she was crafting. I had never even heard of Swedish weaving and was very intrigued. I looked it up on the internet, found the supplies, taught myself the craft and made my first afghan. It was intended to be for me and I loved it. I finished right before Christmas and rather than keeping it decided to send it to my daughter who was in Germany at the time. I never knew how special it was to her until I visited her last year. Not only was it displayed, they had decorated their living room around colors that would show it off best. It was a unique gift that she treasures. That has to be the best gift I’ve ever given.

The best gift I ever received was a small sapphire ring from my parents when I was 10. I had seen this ring when I was in the mall with my mom, who always liked to look through the jewelry store where she and my dad got their wedding bands. I kept telling them that’s all I wanted for Christmas and I would be happy only getting the ring if that’s all they could afford to get me. When Christmas morning rolled around and the presents were being opened, I kept looking for a small box that might be the ring. Finally, my dad handed me my last gift. Instead of a small box, it was a long tube, like a poster might be in. I was disappointed but tried to hide it and be happy that they had gotten me a poster I had asked for. However, when I unwrapped the tube, there was a small box taped in the middle of the tube that had the ring in it. I had to add some gold to it a few years ago so I could have it sized to fit my finger and still wear it today, 17 years later.
It’s definitely much harder to say what the best give I ever gave was. It could have been the year my parents and I each gave two of our $250 flight vouchers to my siblings and their significant others. But, it could also have been the fourth row ticket to a Colorado Avalanche hockey game I gave my mom a few year’s ago. Or it migh even be the framed picture of my whole family, parents, siblings and their spouses and kids, and me, to my dad’s mom and to my mom’s parents – one each.
As for books, I don’t actually have any of the December releases yet. I am looking forward to Patrice Michelle’s Scions: Revelation, Julie Leto’s Phantom’s Touch, and the Heating up the Holidays anthology.

It’s a toss up for best gift given to me. Book giftcards don’t count do they? If not, the year I turned 16 at Christmas I was surprised and disappointed to unwrap a steering wheel cover. I thought I’d accidentally unwrapped my Mom’s gift from my Dad. *G* NOPE, not only did I get a steering wheel cover, but a car! (And I appreciated trust me, I know how hard my Dad had to work to buy it for me.)
As for books? Divorced, Dating and Dating by Christie Craig was a good read. I’m hoping for another gift card from the hubs this year so I can get Zen and the Art of Vampires and About a Dragon. *G*

The best gift I ever recieved would have to be in 1984 from my father, who had passed away that fall. I had read the life story of Helen Keller over the summer and fell in love with it. My father had a heart attack that fall and passed away. So Christmas that year was going to be desperately sad, but it wasn’t. My father had gone shopping for me sometime before he had died and found a autograph of Helen Keller. He had it wrapped up and in his closet. My mother found it and put it under the tree that year for me. When I opened it up that Christmas morning(I was 14), I was speechless. I swear I felt his presence all day that day. I could feel his smile on me, he knew he had done well that year. Even though he wasn’t there with me in body, he was in spirit. And to this day, it remains the most special gift I have ever received.

Laura, that was so special.
Heidenkind, my family and I have been going to craft fairs for many years and have done the same, snuck back to get that present they couldn’t afford. Sometimes they were small and we could sneak in our bag while someone had them looking at something several booths away, other times it was something too big and we’d have to go back the next day, or a few times they were nice to make me a new piece with something changed, like color or design that would suit better and ship it to me.
Cabbage Patch dolls, that was crazy that year. My young niece wanted one so bad and my sister had everyone running all over and not one could be found. Luckily my mother and aunts are all excellent at crafts, so they found supplies and made her one, and it looked just like the ones they were selling. They made a bed to go along with it too, and my niece loved it and my sister stopped driving everyone crazy when she saw how good it came out. Reminds how most of the kids in our family liked Curious George, and two still have them, their security blankets. My mother has performed emergency surgery on them many times, lol, they know which one is theirs, they tried sneaking in new replacments but they knew it wasn’t their original one.

I guess Christmas time makes all us gals a little more sentimental than usual. Being a “Daddy’s little girl” is a very special gift. Sometimes I just stare at the autograph, and think wow! What a women she was. Her hand writing is very precise, and square. Can you imagine the things she had to overcome. When ever I am in doubt of myself and what I can do, I think of her, and think – “Yes I can”. And I think that maybe that was the real underlying gift my Father gave me. I’m so glad that my story went to all of your beautiful hearts. How do I know they are beautiful? You read don’t you?
