Halloween Contest – When Heroines Speak, We Listen
  • Author:
  • Published: Oct 26th, 2008

heroines.jpgSome times we’re about the hero but today we’re all about the heroine.
I’ll give you several heroines and you tell me which one said what.  The first person to correctly guess the name of all the heroines wins the book.  Let’s see how well you know the woman we love.

A)    “I’m offering to marry you” she said. “I want your protection. My father is too ill ad weak to help me, and I will not be a burden to my friends”.
B)    “We are, but you are seventeen minutes younger. Because of this, I have always bullied you umercifully. I work these things out when I am playing a role, you see.
C)    “If you don’t stop, I’m going to start crying,” she pleaded. “I hate to cry,” she added with a sob against his ear.
D)    “I’ve known you for three years. You’re like me in a lot of ways. Hard working and proud and conscientious”.
E)     “This is the only bed we can sleep in , the rest have gone moldy” she said.
F)    “I protest, sir. You speak like I’m an…an actress trying out for a part.”
G)    “What? Whatever for? You don’t think the Frenchman would strike by daylight, do you?
H)    “You got a dupe, you use a dupe. You drive”
I)    “That’s what I need right now”, she told him. A swimming pool, you can swim laps, but I’d like one of those floating chairs with a place to put drinks.”
J)    “I don’t know his name.” And the fact that she didn’t made her feel foolish. “And okay, I know how that sounds. But I was told he was here. I think he’s in trouble.”
K)    “How do you know what dreams I have?” she dared to ask. “You don’t even see me”.
L)    “It’s just been a while, like I’ve said, so if you don’t want to deal with my inexperience, that’s fine. I understand.
M)    “A lot has happened since that night,” she said. “Our lives have changed and fate has placed us in a difficult predicament. You are engaged to another woman, you do not wish to let your brothers down, and I quite frankly do not wish to allow myself to believe that I could ever trust you. I would prefer to remain on guard.”
N)    “I’ve never been to a senior housing center. Is what I’m wearing acceptable?”

Okay, not to leave you hanging, here are the books that these heroines are featured in:
Mouth to Mouth by Erin McCarthy
Jade in Guardian Angel by Julie Garwood
Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas
Shadows of the Night by Lydia Joyce
Out of Control by Suzanne Brockmann
The Spymaster’s Lady by Joanna Bourne
Morrigan’s Cross by Nora Roberts
In the Bed of a Duke by Cathy Maxwell
Born in Death by J.D. Robb
The Mistress Diaries by Julianne MacLean
Too Much Temptation by Lori Foster

Hey Crystal – I agree with you, about it not being easy. But this was Marisa’s contest idea and she swears it isn’t that hard. I think Marisa’s mind might work a little differently than the rest of us.

Considering that there are 8 books in that list that I haven’t read I think I’m going to have to agree with Crystal on this one. I’m sure it’s going to be easy for someone out there but that someone isn’t me! 🙂

LOL Maria and PJ I’m with you gals, my brain isn’t working properly and I’ve read maybe 2 on the list. I even did chapter/exerpt searches for EACH one and still came up with only the two answers 🙁 I really wanted to win, but hopefully someone else will have better luck 🙂 You gals enjoy your Sunday 🙂 Marisa I’d love to have your brain at the moment so I can figure this one out 🙂

How sad that, even having read a few of the books OFTEN, I can’t match anything?

I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve only read two of the books listed *hangs head* – Devil in Winter and Born in Death, and I can’t even guess those too!

All this tells me is…I need to read more 🙂

Ladies, ladies – don’t be hard on yourselves. I think Marisa was a bit *wicked* on this challenge, and I’m going to tell her so.

Yo! Miss Marisa! Can you hear me! We NEED to talk.

Maria, since you are around… did you guys get my email?

I’m having a bit of trouble here. Seems some one hijacked my log on! and is posting. I worked it all out with our tech person and I’m going to post this as a test and be right back with some helpful hints.

azteclady – no I didn’t get your e-mail, when and where did you you send it? To the alphamail address?

I truly was not meaning to be wicked! Maria warned me this was too hard. I guess I haven’t given enough information.Sorry about that.

Alrighty then. Here’s some more information that may help you.

    * cyclops8 got TWO correct. She got Annique wrong. I tried to fool you with that one. Annique is B. So is the heroine in G you might ask? Well, her name is Alyse – see if you can find her book.

    * The heroine in D is from one of my favorite authors and the book she belongs to is the first of two books. The SECOND book was titled Never Too Much.

    * The heroine in J is part of a trilogy. She has the last book in the series. The series was written by a best selling author that lives in Boonsboro.

    I’ll be back with more.

Y’all let me know if the clues Miss Marisa has give are of any help. I’m just curious.

I’m with PJ on this one. And since I haven’t read but two of the books listed, and neither of them recently, the hints don’t help me much. I hope everyone else has better luck! 🙂

Alright, alright. Here are some more clues:

    A) is a heroine whose book was the third book of a quartet of books named after the four seasons. (come now big ‘ole hint)

    C) This heroine comes from a book by a much beloved author. Its an historical, but the author no longer writes historicals.

    E) Cyclops was right on this one

    H) This heroine is married to a man who owns most of this planet and others.

    I) I’ll admit this is a tricky one. This heroine is part of a series about SEALS.

I think that’s enough to work with? Let me know.
