Kelsey Howard is a woman who does whatever she wants and whomever she wants. At 34, she bartends at an elite club, Risqué, has plenty of friends and lives in her own condo. She enjoys sex and has plenty of it, including with strangers, but lately she wants more. Then one night, she realizes that someone in the apartment across the street is watching her and is a bit shocked that it turns her on. She puts on a show for her naughty neighbor and flashes a card with her phone number. He calls and when they finally meet in person, Kelsey thinks that she have found exactly what she’s always been searching for — her soul mate.

This is the first book I’ve read by Sasha White. Besides knowing it was an erotic romance, I wasn’t sure what to expect. What I got was a well-written, character-driven erotic romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. It is told in both 1st person (Kelsey, the heroine) and 3rd person (Harlan, the hero). I’ve never read a book that had both and it totally worked for me.

I really liked Kelsey. She is uninhibited, a free spirit and the title of the book absolutely ‘fits’ her personality. Because Kelsey’s POV was told in 1st person, I felt instantly in tune with her. On the surface, she’s a beautiful woman and the envy of many, but inside she doesn’t always feel that way. She has a hole inside that needs to be filled and is smart enough to admit that filling it with food, drink and casual sex isn’t good, but still does it because it makes her feel better for a little while. She knows what she wants, but hasn’t found it yet and is unwilling to settle. She wants someone who will see below the surface layer and be in love with her … someone who wants more than to see her happy … she wants someone who wants to make her happy. When she meets Harlan Shaw, she thinks she may have found that person, but is hesitant because she doesn’t quite know how to deal with those unfamiliar feelings.

As an artist, Harlan Shaw is used to being up at all hours either painting or chasing his muse. He finds that muse in Kelsey. He first spots her by accident, but can’t tear his eyes away once he does. She’s beautiful, wild and sexy and the more he watches her, the more she captivates him. Then one night he observes her out on her balcony staring at the stars and thinks “… she looked like an angel with a bruised soul. It called to him, that bruised part of her. So much more than her beauty.” Wow! I absolutely loved that part … and I totally fell for Harlan at that moment. As Harlan gets to know Kelsey, he understands her wariness and is patient with her. He teaches her to let go, to trust and to take a chance with him.

My Prerogative is an extremely sexy story with multi-layered characters that I absolutely adored. It is loosely connected to several of Ms. White’s previous books, but is definitely solid enough to stand on its own (though, I will surely be checking out those other titles! *g*). If you like your romance scorching, this one’s for you!

Great review Andrea! I have heard some buzz about this book lately and have wondered if I would enjoy this author. Since our tastes are pretty similiar, I’d have to guess that I would. You know how I like a hot book :)

Ohhh, Andrea you had me with the following line:

‘… she looked like an angel with a bruised soul. It called to him, that bruised part of her. So much more than her beauty.’

I really like it when the connection between the hero and heroine isn’t about their…external fixtures ;) I’ll have to check this out. Thank you Andrea,

Andrea, I’ve never read Sasha White and you know me I’m always looking for a new author. I’m glad you recommended this book, I was hesitant when I read the back cover blurb – but you’ve set me straight on a few things. I really enjoy ‘romantica’ and erotic romance but it absolutely must have a back bone with a good story line and engaging characters… So I’m putting this on my list and trying it out.

    Thanks Andrea!

Marisa, this is one of the best erotic romances I’ve read. And when I started it, I expected to like it, but ended up LOVING it. I hope you enjoy it, too! :)

OKay, I’m trying this again…. *blush*

WOW! Thank you for such a wonderful review., Andrea. I always love to hear when a reader enjoys my stories, but hearing why they loved it, and what they loved is even better. You know, until I read this review I forgot that line by Harlan…but now I totally remember when I wrote it and I think it’s when I too fell in love with him.

I hope you enjoy the others just as much. :)

This book was amazing, couldnt put it down. i finished it in 3 days. funny thing is when i was talking with my brothers girlfriend i was telling her how good this book was and offered to pass it on to her, she said no, shes not much of a reader. i pursuaded her to give it a shot, sure enough 4 days later she called and was shocked at how great this book was. she had it finished by the forth day! lol.
