Musings

Maria caught me off guard. I couldn’t think of one paranormal romance book where the drinking of blood between the hero and heroine isn’t about seduction. So – if you can name a book and back me up on this you win a book! A random poster will be chosen later tonight.

I think that JR Ward must be a genius. I say that with a mixture of dismay and total admiration. You see, with her last book, Lover Enshrined, I’d given up on the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. For a variety of reasons that really aren’t important, except to say that I felt that she’d moved away from romance and into a confusing urban fantasy series that wasn’t much to my taste. All of that has changed with the publication of this book, which Ward refers to as the “Compendium”, as will I.

The Compendium includes a variety of impressive tidbits about not just about the Brotherhood, but also about Ward’s writing process. Ward herself has a very strong voice, which anyone who has read …

stopwhining.jpgMarisa:  You know me – I’m watching all the new TV premieres this month.  And it’s come to my attention that there are entirely too many whiny heroines this season. Not only that, they tend to whine every where from the privacy of their bedrooms to the very public arenas of  business meetings.  From Meredith in Grey’s Anatomy to Kitty in Brothers and Sisters, they just can’t seem to help themselves.  If I were reading a romance book with a whinny heroine it would be a definite DNF (did not finish) for me.

Today is Toni Collette day on Romance Novel TV. I’m a huge fan of this talented actress and she has starred in some of my favorite movies. Ms. Collette is a chameleon, slipping on the skin of each character as if it were her own and changing with each role she takes on. She’s an actress who has played on the Broadway stage, independent films and studio pictures with the same ease and grace throughout. She does what all good actresses do – she makes you believe — and for one hour or two transports you to another world. I had a hard time picking my three favorite movies to watch this weekend. I wasn’t quite sure if I wanted to laugh, cry or have the bejezzus scared out of …
