Finding your Ture Love through Books?…Hmmm..

Penguin Books UK has launched a dating website in conjunction with Match.com

“Penguin said the site would offer readers “a place to meet and indulge in the age-old art of writing love letters”. Members will be asked to write in their profile about the last book they read and will also be able to search through the site’s other profiles for mentions of their favorite book.”

Actually, I’ve recently met four people who found the loves of their lives on-line. However, it seems odd to me that a publishing company would be involved in on-line dating — on the other hand, it’s really just another business venture, and a clever one at that.

I have visions of people trolling through potential member profiles, checking out their book lists, and then clicking on the Penguin website to buy and read the book — in preparation for a date.

What books would you want to see on potential match’s profile?

That’s a good question. I don’t know. But I can tell you want t one I wouldn’t want to see – He’s Just Not That Into You.

Margay – LOL, so true so true.

I’d say that my potential mate would have to have books like – Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values, The History of Women’s Rights, definitely a Jane Austen Novel and perhaps a Charlotte Bronte. Then he’d have to have some of my favorites like Wild Swan, Replay and Stephen King’s The Stand. He doesn’t have to read romance novels, just be intrigued and accepting that I do. Who knows, I might even get him to read a J.R.Ward, Jessica Anderson or Kathryn Smith novel. From there…endless possibilities.

If I had ever seen a book list from my husband, before we were married – I might have thought twice. We have such completely different taste.

Maria, too funny! I don’t think my hubby even read before we got married! He usually slept through English class. But now he reads John Sandford, Stephen King, John Saul, James Patterson, Tom Clancey.

Since we are discussing dating and loves of our lives, I just had to mention that today the hubby and I are celebrated 18 years of marriage. I so can’t believe it has been that long already!

    LOL! Good one, Margay! :D

It would be cool to see some/most of my favorite authors on a profile, but I’d be okay if they weren’t. After all, my husband is not a reader and I love him to pieces. ;)

Happy Anniversarry Buffie – Yeah time does fly – hope you have a great day.

When it comes to dating and books – I don’t think the books I read would reveal that much about me – expect that I’m not one who likes to be scared – I’ve been known to throw a Stephen King book across the room because it scared the bejees out of me. So you know I can’t read Koontz.

Happy Anniversary, Buffie! Interesting question, Maria! I guess I’d want to see what I consider to be “guy” books: Stephen King, Tom Clancy, etc. But a little evolution wouldn’t kill a fella.

    Happy anniversary Buffie.

I always think the In Death books are really great for guys because they have this strong, beautiful romance but would still appeal to guys with the suspense element. And then, guys could try to aspire to be Roarke. Impossible, I know, but a girl can dream!

Great answer, Margay! I don’t think knowing what they’re reading would tell me much unless they’re into really gory, gruesome stuff. That might cause me to think twice.

MK, since I adore Tom Clancy books does that mean I’ve devolved? :)

PJ – Devolved? No. If you love Clancy novels (my roommate does too), it just means you enjoy a good “guy” yarn. I know a ton of people who love other authors who I consider to be “guy” authors. I think my mom likes Clancy too. It’s probably me that’s devolved.
