    A Romance Author’s Perfect Day!

Got up and read emails. My publisher told me what a delightful guest I was at the chalet, and gave me more good news:

Lithuania, the only country that hadn’t bid on foreign rights for Bound to Love Her, finally got a clue and is throwing a private jet into the bargain.

Met with night-shift research assistant, who talked with teams from Wikipedia and Google. Both agreed that my request for a separate division to handle my questions was perfectly reasonable. Google threw in some stock. Turns out Eric’s wife is a big fan of my elves. Aww…

Plugged into computer and thought eight chapters. Can’t imagine what I did before dear Steve Hawking invented that thought-transference USB cable for me. Of course, it did lead to that flap with the bookstore that shall not be named, but eventually they built me my own section, so it all worked out. Must tell bookstore about idea to include a nightly, elven-themed dinner theater in café. Promotion can never be too big.

Worked out with personal trainer, got daily massage, and met with chef. To solve goat-milk brie problem, told chef to get herd of goats and start with the fermentation already. The chive garden is doing well, isn’t it? He agreed completely.

Met with architect on tower writing-room plans. I know Libeskind is known for titanium, but it’s so cold. Talked him into pink granite with a high exterior shine and castle crenellations. Once he’s paid and gone, will rip out the lighted glass walls and put in hand-painted climbing-rose wallpaper to go with my name. Such a good idea of Martha’s, and it will provide jobs for all those sweet girls she met in jail.

Met Joe in hologram room for a little R&R. What an angel he is to play elfy games night after night, but after all, it is in the name of research. So handy he was willing to quit his job and grow his hair. It really is beautiful

Second daily massage with rose oil. That new anti-aging herbal beverage tastes fabulous, and who knew it would also make me a natural redhead?! Side benefit of amazing dreams makes me think I should plug into computer and dream a fifth series while I sleep. Must ask Steve if he can make a picture e-book in 3D. Nighty-night!

What’s your ideal writing day like?

Esri – the video is way too funny!!! Well Done! (Who does the voice of the ring – way too sexy).

I just finished reading Bound to Love Her, and I really loved the way Erin handles meeting Galan. I mean it’s not every day you meet an elf. A gorgeous one at that! Her humor and wit make these two a great romantic pairing!

I’m not a writer – but I know how I would spend a ‘perfect day’ – WAKE UP WITHOUT AN ALARM CLOCK! Have breakfast in bed. Take a walk in the garden. A massage before lunch. And several hours of reading a great book would definitely have to be penciled into my schedule.

    I love the video too!

How did you come up with the idea of an elf?

My perfect day – at the beach reading a romance novel.

Hi Esri! Great video, especially the out takes. How funny!

You already know how much I liked BOUND TO LOVE HER. Before starting the book I was a little wary of an elf hero but sexy Galen had won me over before I could blink. He and Erin are such a great couple. I’m looking forward to seeing them, and Kutara, in the next book!

My perfect day? Hmmmm…. it would definitely include a massage. A girl can never have too many of those. Also, books, specifically lovely romances, and music. I adore music. A walk on the beach with my dogs would be nice and a sweet, sexy guy to cuddle with is always welcome. :)

Congrats again on your wonderful world of elves and BOUND TO LOVE HER!

    Hugs,

    PJ

“What’s your perfect writing day…” Sheesh. I hang out way too much with writers. What’s your perfect any kind of day?

Beach is good. Books — essential!

Maria — this is the second of five books I’ve written, but the first to get published. What that means is that I wrote it just after the first Lord of the Rings movie came out. I thought that Legolas would be an interesting character, set in modern times.

The Colin video is very oblique to my career, but it was a promotion opportunity on another website. I thought it would be easy to put together (hahaha!). The Legolas action figure was my attempt to SOMEHOW tie it to a book about elves. But at least it gives people an idea of my sense of humor, and there’s a lot of humor in the first book. The second one, which I’m just finishing, is quite a big darker. But it’s still the first draft. I may lighten it up.

If you go to my blog (http://elvesamongus.com/blog/), you can see a little intro video for my appearance here on RomanceNovel.TV. Our house sits in the middle of the block (Boulder is heavily subdivided), and we were just getting set to record video when this guy wanders down the walk. Looks at me, sprawled on a leather chaise in an evening gown, with a laptop. Looks at Joe, wearing a tux jacket, shirt, cummerbund, and swim trunks. “Um, I just knocked over your neighbor’s motorcycle. Do you know how I can get in contact with him?” the guy asks.

Joe gets our phone, calls Neighbor Brad’s cell, hands the guy the phone. Brief conversation ensues. Guy hangs up. “Um, thanks.”

Me, with big smile, “No problem.”

Not a word is said of what we’re doing. It’s a good thing my parents were on the scene (they were in town for my book signing), or he would surely have thought we were shooting an “adult movie.”

Hey Esri! Great to have you here at RNTV. I haven’t had a chance to read Bound To Love Her yet, but from all the praise it is receiving here and over at Romance Bandits it is definitely on my list.

You had me giggling with your story of shoot and the guy who knocked over your neighbor’s bike. Too funny!! BTW, I have a cousin who lives in Boulder, and I would be surprised if he wasn’t the one who knocked over the bike! LOL

My perfect day would involve my boys not arguing over who gets to play what video game, the dh doing all the housework, a handsome landscape guy doing all the lawn work, and me reclining on a chaise lounge watching it all unfold while sipping a drink and reading a fabulous book. Aahhhhh, now that would be great!

Hi, Esri! I “met” you over at Colleen’s blog when she was at RT. Glad to see you here at RNTV. :)

Oh my gosh, that video is hilarious!! Love it.

Hmmm, my perfect day… Well, like Buffie, my day would involve my kids playing nicely. My hubby would be the handsome landscape guy (he doesn’t want anyone but him doing our yard) and I would either be lounging in my library (’cause let’s face it, if it’s a perfect day, my house would have one) or outside in our swing enjoying the perfect weather while reading a great romance novel.

Waving back to Esri! Believe me, I understand the futility of trying to make sense on too little sleep. The dogs woke me at 3am Sunday morning when the leading edge of some bad storms hit our area. They moved through by 6am but were followed by high winds. The winds knocked out our power early Sunday evening and the dogs barked at every little sound they heard, especially all the branches flying all over the place. Since the power wasn’t restored until 5:45 this morning and the wind is still blowing there were many, many sounds for them to bark at – ALL NIGHT! I’m praying for a nap in the near future.

Love the story of the guy who knocked over the bike. I sure would like to know what was going through his mind when he stumbled upon your video shoot! LOL!

AdreaW: Hi! Oooh, a book and a swing… I’m giving you a gold star for that. Are you wearing a flowing white dress in your swing? Urk, I think I just tapped into an alternate online universe. Ignore the fact that I just asked what you’re wearing. We’ll take the white dress as a given and move on.

PJ: Harsh! I wonder if you can give dogs Tylenol PM? Might be worth a call to the vet, for future reference. So glad you escaped the storms mostly unscathed.

Oh, PJ, I hear you about those storms. It hit us around 4 a.m. yesterday morning. Not a great way to wake up on Mother’s Day. It was pretty bad, but luckily our immediate area was not hit by a tornado. Hey, Andrea, everything okay at your house?

Esri, you are hilarious! Sure, we’ll go with a white dress. And a really cute pair of strappy sandals … or heck, maybe I’m barefoot because I’d just gotten a pedi. ;)

Buffie, we’re fine, thanks for asking. Just a lot of debris on the roads and a few snapped trees in my area. Glad to hear that you and PJ are okay. I hope all is well with Gannon! O, Gannon, where art thou?

Maria: That’s a darn good question. Let’s just say that my family is a tad eccentric. I do have two regrets about that incident. 1) That we didn’t get the guy on video. 2) That I didn’t hand him a promotional bookmark while I had the chance.

Ah, Esri, she says with a giggle raising a glass of Bollinger in her friend’s direction, what fun it is to be a multi-million selling author like us! I can’t work out why everybody doesn’t do this for a living. I mean, you can’t call it work, can you? I must investigate the USB thing – at the moment, I’m wrangling 20 assistants. But then, they’re so pretty, I’d miss them. Richard Armitage, you put down that massage oil now! You had your turn yesterday. It’s Hugh Jackman’s turn to give me a pedicure today. You KNOW that! And the massage oil does terrible things to my silk Chanel evening gown, the old rag I always wear to do my writing for the five minutes a day it takes…

    Ah, fantasy!

Esri, lovely to see you here! Book sounds fantastic!!!!

What color Chanel gown? (What is it with me and wanting to know what people wear?)

Hey, Esri! How’s it going, pal o’ mine? Another funny post, not that I’m surprised. Oh, if I only had one-tenth of your wit.

I’m eagerly anticipating starting your book. I know I’ve had it for a week, but I’m having to finish up a book that has to go back to the library before the library police come and drag me away. :) (It’s Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr, a YA RITA finalist this year. You might like it. It has faeries.)

Oh, and hi to M and M and Buffie and all the rest of the RNTV gang. I’ve been lame about getting over here lately. Not enough hours in the day — I need to clone myself. That or get that wonderful brain USB cable of Esri’s. That would rock, as would a personal chef. I don’t like cooking.

Marisa: My book signing was my celebration. Angel Joe (my spouse) has a humongous family. They descended on Borders en masse and bought 33 copies of my book. The store manager was overjoyed, and solemnly told me, “There will always be a place for you at the bottom of our stairs.” That’s where they put the signing table, so people have to pass you. Al, his name was, and when he found out I was also a David Sedaris fan, he gave me his signed, advance copy of Sedaris’ upcoming book. What a nice guy!

TrishMi! If only I had one-tenth of of your discipline! It’s easy to be funny when you’re kind of an airhead. Tell you what — you, me and Diane Gaston will team up and take over the romance world, what do you say?

My perfect day would include waking up naturally (as opposed to the jarring of the alarm!), having all the delightful things I want to eat prepared for me on demand, being able to jet off at a moment’s notice and not having to worry about where ANY children are. Esri, trust me, there are days when the discipline is sorely lacking. I am being a good little writer and writing new pages today. :)

You, Diane and me, huh? Cool. :) Though there are lots of other fabulous authors who we should snatch up along the way to help with the takeover of Romancelandia. :)

Okay, must write 4 more pages to meet my goal for today and be able to treat myself with a movie tonight (though not the one you might have been shooting in your back yard — LOL!).
