What will happen in Sex and the City the MOVIE?

2008_sex_and_the_city_002.jpg“After years of living in the city I assumed that if my friends and I ever got our fairy tale endings that would be the end of the story. But real life- always has a twist”
– Carrie Bradshaw

I bet Candace Bushnell never thought that women around the country would be tuning in every week for the next installment in the lives of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, Samantha and of course Big. I did, like clockwork. I loved the fashion, the frankness, and the relationships that developed over four years. I admit, it was sad to say goodbye, but the show’s creators rewarded us loyal fans with a happy ending. The writers allowed each character to grow, from sex craved, relationship starved, self-centered women into four, sexy, glamorous, determined, women with a bond to each other that endured some trying times. When the series ended, I was satisfied. Miranda had a husband, a child, a mother-in-law and she learned to love and care, Samantha survived cancer, learned to trust and was in a committed relationship, and one of the sexier 40- somethings on TV. Charlotte found love and motherhood, and Carrie finally got her man.

So, now the movie. I will most certainly be in the theatre when the film opens on May 30th. I won’t be able to stay away, and it’s not one of those, “I’ll wait to rent it” type films. I don’t want word of mouth to spoil it. I want to sit there and watch on a screen that’s bigger than my house, in the dark with the my coke and twizzlers and popcorn – and gaze lovingly at the fashion and antics. But – I await the release without a small amount of trepidation. Here’s why – they already gave me my happy ending – period the end. Could I stand to see them ‘mess’ with my idea of what their lives are like now? Hmmmm…. It’s a wait and see situation if ever there was one.

Do you prefer to hold on to the happy ending you’ve already been given, or are you looking for more sex in the city?

I’m definitely looking for more Sex and the City – I love sequels. I want to know what happens after “The End” is flashed on the screen or is printed on the last page of a book. Did Carrie drive Mr. Big crazy with a need for a larger closet to store all her shoes? Did Samantha and Smith find their happy ending? How does Charlotte fair in motherhood? And Miranda – does she ever get use to living in Brooklyn? Inquiring minds want to know.

I was a late bloomer when it came to loving Sex and the City. I didn’t catch it until it started rerunning on one of the channels (can’t remember which one). But I did fall in love it it. Something about the show resonated with me. I can’t described it, but I think I felt some kinship with each of the four characters. I can’t wait to see the movie. I just hope I can find someone to go with ’cause the hubby won’t do it.

Loved the show. Samantha was well worth watching. And Smith! Mmm, so yummy. Not sure if I’ll go see it in the theatre, not with Iron Man out competing for my attention.

I just wish the movie had been released a few weeks earlier so I could see it in the afternoon while the kiddies were still in school!

I’d love a happy ending, but will probably still enjoy watching more, so that probably didn’t help at all.
