My boys are back in school and once again the focus of my
life shifts to the car line. My kids
are always excited to go back to school, to see their friends, and pick up
their social life where they left it at the end of May. I, too, am excited to see the kids back in
school. Mainly because I like to be on a
routine. So in the afternoon, I sit
and wait in a car line that snakes through the school parking lot. Those 15 minutes of waiting are
peaceful. The quiet solitude of my
mini-van calls to me. And I find I can
read another chapter or two in the book I am currently devouring. I become engrossed, traveling through time
and seeing a romance bloom. I am
happy. But as the car line moves, I
feel sadness because I have to put down my book. My quiet time has come to an end. No more peaceful solitude. But as my van door opens and my boys get
in, another joy takes hold in my heart. My precious children have enjoyed another day of exploring, another day
of friendship, and another day of learning to love to read. I smile as both boys talk at the same time,
telling me of their day. Sometimes
chaos can be peaceful too!

So my question to you is . . . when and where do you steal
a few minutes a day to read?

Riding the bus into NYC. And if anyone dares to try and strike up a conversation with me — well, it could get ugly.

I love to read on the bus going into work. If I have to drive in then I’m miserable all day.

Buffie, I miss reading in the car line at school! Since we moved, we now live within walking distance of school, so I no longer grab that time to read. I do have some good reading time, though, during various football and cheerleading practices!

I also like to grab a little time in the morning before everyone is up and rolling. But my favorite time to read is at night when everyone else is in bed! Blissful silence…ahhhh.

I read in the car line, too! I actually get to the school about an hour or 45 minutes before school lets out. I’m usually the first or second in line and it gives me plenty of time to read and time for my daughter to take a nap.

And I hear you, Buffie, about when my son jumps in the van, another type of joy takes over my heart. Picking him up from school is my favorite time of the day. ๐Ÿ™‚

I ride the Metro to work every day. That’s 30 minutes each direction of blissful reading time. Unless I’m standing up, then it’s harder to concentrate. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I still read, but I don’t sink in like I do when I’m sitting.

I can alway steal and hour or so in the evenings. I like to read in bed, but very often end up staying up too late. I’m still not sure why??? I mean, it’s not like the book won’t be there in the AM. SIGH. It defies logic.

Lately I’ve taken to late night reading. Once my guys hit the sack and the house is nice and quite. Reading with no interruptions! That is nirvana.
