Behind the Scenes – Bull Riding – Yeehaw!!!

If you go to Dallas – you gotta ride the Bull.  So that’s exactly what Romance Novel TV did.  Well not exactly, we went, we filmed it, and we had a great time at the Red River.  So here’s my version of what took place.

Our crew consisting of myself, Ana our camera woman, and Kate our Production Associate met Sophia Nash, Kathryn Caskie, Pamela Palmer, Diane Gaston, Hope Tarr and Terri Ridgell in the lobby of the Hyatt in Dallas.

Scene One, Take One:
Sophia and the gang march out of the lobby and hop inside of a big blue van. The van happened to be sitting in the front of the hotel and it was not waiting for us.  Sophia, ever the professional and not wanting to stop tape, opens up the door and every one piles in.  The driver is completely stupefied wondering who the heck are these women and what are they doing in my van?  Turns out he can’t drive us anywhere, it’s a handicapped van —  we were in the wrong ride.

Scene One, Take Two –
Sophia and the gang march out of the hotel and into white Hummer limo. That’s the version that made it on the screen.

Scene Two, Take One –
Arrive at the Red River and the plan is to march right into the place.  Oh – but wait, they need to check everyone’s I.D. first.  Yup, a tall, handsome cowboy wants to card everyone.  So…

Scene Two, Take Two –
Everyone’s been carded so we can film the scene seemingly seamlessly, except I haven’t shown my ID yet. The tall, handsome cowboy looks at me, and I say, "Get a grip, I left my purse in the car and I’m old enough to have given birth to you – you don’t need my ID."  He lets me pass.

Scene Three, Take One-
Riding the mechanical bull.  I’ll let that scene speak for itself!

Scene Four, Take Once, Two, Three, Four, etc-
Romance Writers doing the two step.  Okay, this was really funny.  The dance floor was circular built around the bar.  By now we’ve been joined by Jacquie D’Allesandro and things are gearing up.  There are several men just waiting to dance.  In Texas, they take bull riding and the two step very seriously.  So the women break out onto the dance on the floor.  What you don’t see is me, Ana and Kate trying not to kill ourselves as we stumble around the dark dance floor in an attempt to catch the moves… Yikes, it was cameras, lights, cords, and audio wires everywhere and we’re running around trying to capture everyone’s faces…

Scene Five, Take One –
We’re now joined by Roxanne St. Claire and Kresley Cole and we’re all going to line dance, including me.  I have judiciously edited that segment so there is no trace of me on the line.We were being taught by a man who is an actual instructor of line dancing.  When he assessed the caliber of ‘dancers’ he was dealing with, he happily exclaimed he would teach us something easy.  Easy!  Huh!  Believe it or not, I am a graduate of Performing Arts High School and The Juilliard School as a dancer – I thought I would have no problem learning a line dance, suffice to say – the scene was cut very short…..

Scene Six – No Take
The lights go out. In fact, an entire grid of city went black.  And that is why you will not see an official ending to this piece.  The Romance Novel TV crew called it quits around midnight – when the lights went out.

FINALE
We had a great time!  Hanging with the girls in Dallas was a blast.

Maria, thanks for taking me there. Unfortunately I was filming something at the hotel and could not make this Girl’s Night out. I love seeing everyone let go and have a good time. Too much fun.

Oh my gosh, I really shouldn’t read this stuff while I’m eating cereal. You know, you, Marisa and Kim keep trying to convince us you were working in Dallas but all I see is fun, Fun, FUN!

Seriously, while I know you did have a great time, your work has been sensational. Through your segments I feel as if I had been right there with you riding the bull, two-stepping with sexy cowboys, glamming it up on RITA night and enjoying a cozy chat with my favorite authors. THANK YOU!

p.s. How I would have loved to see the expression on that van driver’s face! LMAO!

It was such fun that I watched it twice. Everyone seemed to be having such fun. As always, Sophia and Kathy looked terrific, and I am still laughing at Hope Tarr’s comment.
